Goddamn. 5 years. I have worked in shelters at least a couple of hours a week for 20 years and have never seen an animal that waited that long. So nice to hear.

Even Red took less than 3 years and only because he was very special needs and time intensive. He can't even poop on his own. But he is an awesome dog and whenever I took him out almost everyone stopped to say hi to him and ask me questions. (He got shot in a home invasion defending his owner.) I was lucky enough to be one of the few volunteers allowed to walk him.

Here is a video of Red.

I think I may have posted this info here before but I don't care. Red is too awesome not to share again.

Wow. Thank you so much for posting that. He seems like such a sweet happy dog! And his new owner is a blessing. It takes a lot to care for an animal with special needs. And interesting how all of these things came together to save Red's life. The cop determining he was worth saving, the vets who saved him and gave him his (probably custom made?) Wheelchair, the people who volunteer at Paws who put so much info keeping him happy, then the woman who was strong enough to take him as her pet. Beautiful story beautiful dog beautiful people.
