There used to be a couple other subverses that were similar but their mods quit. I put in to mod one of them, but got no response. I think there's also uplifting news but I think that's pulled over from Reddit...everything here I find myself/search for.

I don't think Reddit is a terrible source for things, as long as you don't link back to Reddit. It's their censorship and community I dislike. Much of the content over there is not bad.
My sub is a local news sub, it's pretty niche because I don't think many locals are on here, but I try to bring to light local news that might interest the general voater. I had to stop using one online newspaper as a source because it demands money after viewing 10 articles a month. I guess I could just archive to it, though.

I must admit that I delete cruel comments from my sub, so I do censor it, but my standards for cruel are pretty high (for instance someone repeatedly kept saying that they hoped a rescue animal would die, and also told me to 'die bitch' a few times). I do warn people about it in the sticky on top of the sub and in the sidebar. Basically, I just want this to be a place where people can see nice news and not hate and sadness that we hear about all the time.
I looked at your sub, looks like you are from the UK. Awesome! I've always wanted to visit there. I'll subscribe to it, just to see what happens across the pond.
