This is largely because the app is rather bloated (~1400Kb for JS+css) and I've made no real effort to optimize it for size.
All of reddit's open source CSS/images are included in that even parts I'm not using.
It's still not too terrible though, reddit's new redesign is a little less than half that size. (they've received about $200m more in funding to build their js client)
I may look into web service workers or something to reduce the bandwidth, but the simplest solution is to just have ceddit.com redirect to snew.github.io (maintaining the path and everything) and let github deal with it.
I prefer people use snew.github.io because it seems more transparent that way anyway.
