I have 300 hours in CS:GO which I played since its release and 100 in Insurgency. At some point I got bored of CS and am enjoying Insurgency more, at the moment.

What I like in both games:

  • Intensity. You respawn slowly, fights are quick.

  • Objective based, tactical gameplay. Winning matters over kills. A frag, smoke or flashbang in the right place at the right time can be a game changer.

  • Gunplay. Guns have recoil, I think it makes fps games more satisfying.

Pros of CS, cons of Insurgency:

  • CS has tighter controls and a more competitive focus. Insurgency can be a bit wonky sometimes. For example, if you go prone in Insurgency, there is a short moment where you can't shoot, to discourage "dolphin diving". If you reload and stand up from being prone, the reload is cancelled, same with sprinting. This can be frustrating.

  • CS has a bigger playerbase and consequently a bigger competitive scene and a more even ranked matchmaking. Teams in Insurgency can be quite imbalanced, but if you're winning, then who cares.

  • Since the maps are bigger in Insurgency and you have lower tolerance for bullets, often it will seem like you were randomly shot and you will have no idea where you were shot from. That takes some getting used to. It can feel like you have a low-impact on the game. The maps aren't that good for smaller scale games.

Pros of Insurgency:

  • More immersive. The sound quality is better. Insurgency is very satisfying in a way that is hard to quantify. You feel more like you are in the game.

  • Aim-down sights works well, with metal sights and low powered scopes being faster and giving peripheral vision, while high powered scopes give you zoom, but are less practical in mid-close engagements, with higher aim time and less peripheral vision.

  • More variation in game modes with more players, playstyles and bigger maps. Good fun.

  • Insurgency has a good coop mode vs. Bots. I like playing that as a warmup or when I want to have an easy game.

  • Mostly players are silent, but when they talk, generally I find them less annoying than in CS

  • Recently, there has been the new Day of Infamy WW2 mod for Insurgency that is worth checking out.

I like both games. CS is a time-proven classic, while Insurgency innovates and tries new things with exciting and satisfying results, in my opinion.

It's an odd ball thing, but I really enjoy the radio noises incorporated into the voice chat.

The PvE co-op mode is fantastic for playing with buddies, esp if they aren't of the same skill as you. It's also great to play with friends because you can find it so cheap.

It's because of wallers, isn't it?

I was thinking it was just me, but it seems like hackers everywhere. Went from DMG to Nova 4 on my main, and on my "I'm to drunk to play on my main account" I'm down to SEM. Even the SEM players seem like they are way better than they should be. Either something is really wacky with ranks or cheaters everywhere.

Never played it, but as a bit CS:GO fan I am interested to hear your review.

Still trying to get the hang of it. I've been putting in a lot of hours at work so I haven't had as much time with it as I'd like.

It's harder to learn the maps because they are so large. Not really a bad thing, but I can tell it's holding me back. In CSGO we know where our first interaction could be with the other team. Not knowing that is a huge disadvantage. Having a hard time knowing when to be stealthy and when to rush. Again with the large map there are just so many angles to try and check, it's so different then CSGO where you can easily clear angles as you advance.

I may post again after I get some more time in it. Can't really say more than first impressions right now.

Found out this was $5.09 on humble bundle, so I went ahead and bought it. Still interested in hearing what opinions are on it.
