I rollerbladed for a long time, just skateparks and halfpipes. I could do backflips, misty flips, but rarerly went beyond 360's and 540's.
Anyways I think I have an explanation for why there was such a big campaign to make rollerblading seem lame. I have friends that skated street in nyc through the 80s-90s. They said they would skate all night eventually meeting up in packs larger than 100, and would tear through the city all night. I can only imagine this was happening in cities all over, so the cops and others must have put a stop to it. My friends say it was amazing, like traveling in a pack, they claim to even have gathered in groups of 1000+ under bridges at like 3am and then flood the streets pretty often.
