I could never get into that show. Just too dark and gritty for me. And the politics were presented in too heavy handed of way. And I really hated the change with Cylons looking human. Just added an entire level of creepiness I didn't really want in my sci-fi.

Honestly I were unable to get past 10 minutes of that show. The acting seemed cheesy beyond anything I've ever seen or tried to watch, I basically wanted to turn it off the second they started talking. It was like everything and everyone in the show was out of place.

I do ofcoarse realize this is my opinion only and that I'm probably in the minority by far, since I've seen this show recommended over and over.

Give it 6 episodes. It takes at least that long for the actors to get into their characters.

Give it more episodes, I said the same thing, it wasn't until Starbuck crashed into a planet episode where I started to get hooked, I think that was episode 5 or 6

That's the most common reason people stop watching BSG - it gets too dark.

When my friend recommended BSG the first time, she warned me this would happen. She also told me to keep watching and that it would be worth the mental agony. She was right.

Finishing BSG, I felt like I had walked out of a revolution in Television. It was unbelievable what that TV show has achieved.

It's interesting looking at Ronald D. Moore as an auteur of science fiction, since he did both Deep Space Nine and BSG. In both these stories, he explores the idea of a villain which can look just like the protagonists. BSG had the Cylons, and DS9 had the shapeshifting Founders.

BSG started out so great its first couple of seasons. It's unfortunate by Season 4 it seemed they were just making things up as they went along.

Aside from the heavy politics (I enjoy a little bit of that in my sci-fi now and then), those were the only redeeming aspects of the show for me. The writing was just extremely stupid and aimless most of the time, but I liked the dark and creepy aspects of the show. I did stop watching it several times, but then I would get curious about how it ended and would start watching again.
