My buddy wanted to borrow my kayak. Told him, "come get it". He drove a Jeep Compass and when he arrived I asked how he was going to attach it to the roof. He said, "it'll fit inside no problem". To which I replied "I don't think so man". He was insistent so we proceed to position the nose of the kayak over the passenger seat and angled back towards the rear driver side. It looked pretty close to fitting. He slowly closed the tailgate and received just a little resistance about an inch or two from closing. He gave it one final small push to close the tailgate. And shattered his entire windshield. We had failed to notice the nose of the kayak was snuggly resting on the windshield. I looked at him and said "you're right, it does fit."

I had this same reaction last year when I had the hatchback of my 3-week old car up in the garage; forgot about it and jumped in my car to move it a little closer to one side. Hatchback hit the top of the entrance and buckled part of the metal near the latch. I just grabbed my head, shook it, laughed and went "great job you fucking moron!"

We all do some stupid shit from time to time but at least you were able to have a chuckle at yourself. On a side note, I hope it wasn't an Si.

I know a guy who was putting bricks in his pickup truck. He threw one brick too far and broke the rear window.

That glass is weak as fuck. Should glass really be that thin in cars?

Windshield glass is made of laminated glass; two pieces of glass with a thin piece of vinyl separating them and it's designed to shatter into small pieces. You don't want thick glass that shatters into deadly shards in the event of an accident.

Vinyl is only for the windshield, that's why you can kick it out even when it's shattered, side and rear windows don't have a plastic film and are designed to crumble into a gazillion pieces.

Got a friend who got hit side on by a car. His legs went up and he smashed his head on the windscreen. If the windscreen had been thick glass it wouldn't have crumpled and he'd probably be in much worse shape.
