It's not pole-vaulting it's vault-poling!

This might look ridiculous, but if your guys can pull this maneuver it's far easier to set up and execute than rappelling down the building to gain access. I don't know how noticeable it might be, especially when you have the people holding the pole exposing themselves so much when it's going down, but if they're quick enough I can certainly see a use for it during assaults.

Looks pretty badass to me, though a bit unbelievable. If I saw this in a movie/game I'd think it was cheesy.

I have to wonder how often it gets used in the field.

Probably only when they have the element of surprise. Because if they're taking fire from above, there's no way in hell that'd work.

Yeah I wonder if the viet cong used to do this. Seems like something they'd do...

Looks like a good idea to me. Plus, the target doesn't see ropes snaking down while it's happening. The first think they know is some guy straddling their balcony. And you don't need helicopters or access to the stairwell to pull it off.

Here in the USA we have ladders.

I mean, that's cool what they're doing and all...but it's also stupidly dangerous for absolutely no reason.

E*: It was pointed out that this method would be quieter than a ladder, and I agree. It would indeed be quieter.

This appears to be faster. Also, that pole is more versatile than a ladder when it comes to height. Likely weighs less and makes less noise than a ladder.

It absolutely is not faster. Watch fireman competitions if you don't believe me.

I can see what you're saying about possibly being quieter, but I pretty completely disagree about it probably weighing less or that it's more versatile in terms of height (extension ladders with hooks and so forth). If the guys had an extension ladder with a hook in this situation all three of them could have scaled the building without anyone ever having to leave cover.

Much quieter, much faster, and much lighter. You know how much ladders that tall weigh? This is awesome.

.....literally only one of the things you said was even remotely true. No. A ladder is still VERY clearly the superior option.

"Fuck that collapsible ladder that would easlly fit on your back along with the other gear we have to carry! CUT DOWN THAT TREE, Quietly tho so they don't hear us"

What?
