But seriously, the Japanese are actually really superstitious about ghosts. Though their idea of 'ghosts' are usually otherwordly entities, rather than the lingering presence of someone who used to be alive.

I'll assume your question is sincere... I did live in Tokyo briefly and my impression of Japanese spiritual beliefs is that even though many are Buddhist, they are also very superstitious and have beliefs about being in contact with the spirits of their ancestors. My neighbors also hung blessings in their window because I'm not Japanese and therefore I was part demon. Ha ha ha.
