Part of it I think is that Oculus has been pointing fingers at Valve for not allowing the Vive on their store for some reason, and here come some clever people and fixed the issue. Surely the Oculus people know their own code, or at least, can look at this hack and see how to fix it. But instead of thanking them, they threaten to fix hole that these guys are exploiting to make it happen.

So, the question is, are they really being sincere when they say they really want to allow Vive on their store but Valve won't let them? Looks like that's a no.

Like you, I can't imagine why Oculus wants to keep people out when they're selling Rifts at cost. Presumably they want to keep locked content to encourage people to buy the Rift instead of Vive and force market share with exclusives. This is not the action of a company that believes it's product is superior to it's competitors.
