Microsoft is trying to consolize PC gaming, don't let them. A game packaged as a Windows app is a castrated game, not to mention that Windows 10 is watching you fap. Did you know that Forza on PC has no support for wheels because Direct Input that every wheel ever uses has been deprecated in Windows 10 and is unavailable for apps? Yep M$ wants to extort licensing fees from wheel and joystick manufacturers on PC too.

same. i've tried ubuntu/linux several times but end up having to use Wine to play games. since steamos is based in linux i could see steam really pushing more and more games to linux releases since the alternative is submit to microsoft. i could see pc gamers really start to move en masse

I have a laptop I installed Linux on to test the waters. Plasmashell fucks up regularly and Firefox runs like shit.

Maybe it's just my version of Kubuntu, but I think Windows is safe for a while.

Wait for Vulkan to actually happen and we might see more and more big titles landing on Linux.

That's completely on the developers, and for most it's not going to result in a profit spending the time to make their game Linux compatible.

People won't switch to Linux because it's still just to complicated to use. The average person doesn't have the time or the will to figure it out.

Like I keep telling people, just don't buy the games that are on the Windows Store.

Only an idiot who never learned from GFWL would buy a Windows Store game.

Not enough, M$ is talking about selling games packaged as Universal Apps on Steam, boycott that shit too. We don't need castrated games packaged as apps on Steam even if Valve would allow it. We don't want to lose mods, Direct Input and 3rd party tools support.

Lose mods? Wait--didn't Steam try to unilaterally implement a system where you had to BUY mods from their store? Didn't they only abandon this after the users revolted? I wouldn't be in such a hurry to hold Steam up as a white-knight that protects the interest of gamers.

I don't think anybody is buying these games, except maybe casual players that don't know any better. it really breaks my heart, hearing that remedy is releasing Quantum Break on it exclusively. They are going to tank hard and it's going to be awhile before they release again on pc...

Honestly this is just mindless FUD. Nobody is going to leave their steam library behind for the windows store. That's just not happening. Origin has tried to do it, Uplay has tried to do it, GoG is trying to do it, none of them commands any appreciable market share. Steam has better features, a better client, better games, and much better deals. Smart publishers with good games won't restrict themselves to a single store either - especially not one that is unpopular.

Steam has exactly nothing to worry about, and neither do any of you. If Microsoft really makes an effort to take on steam, I expect it will be their biggest failure yet.

100% of Win 10 and 8 installs have Windows Store, if you want to say its with users unpopular thats okay but nothing else has that kind of potential userbase.

Just because it's there doesn't mean people will embrace it if they have alternatives they're actively using. Microsoft can't force you to use the Windows store, and I suspect most gamers will be very resistant to it. Hell most gamers won't even consider using GoG simply because they don't want to run another client.

Not if you install Windows 10 LTSB, the windows branch for mass business solutions.

I hope so. It's not like M$ is making a good effort here anyway, the new Gears HD is apparently a horrible port even compared to the first one and the PC version of Forza is a shitty free2play version that doesn't even support wheels because Windows store apps have no access to wheels or other gaming peripherals other than Xbox controllers.

Microsoft to lock down Windows as a gaming platform? If the shitty Gears of War launch is any indication, arguably a 1st party release from Microsoft for Microsoft platforms, Steam has nothing to worry about.

All I see here is one monopoly trying to compete with another. Both monopolies will be negatively affected, and the only winner is the consumer. Don't like something? Speak with your money.

I predict this will go over about as well as Windows phones.
