Obligatory "Get rekt, scrubs" - PCMR

Seriously though, controllers are more comfortable for some people. I think it's great that someone can choose to have a fair fight with controllers only on a console. I can understand that competitive multiplayer games on PC aren't everyone's thing and it's nice for people to at least have the option of playing together on a more casual and accessible platform. I think plenty of PC gamers started out on a console and then moved to PC, one they got more into gaming. Everyone has to start somewhere and consoles are still a good starting point for beginners, in my opinion.

The lack of "controller only" multiplayer could be introduced to PC for people who want it, with a hardware scan checking that mouse and kb are disconnected or non-functional, although the audience might be too small. Still, some big games like CS:GO and Cod might be big enough to realistically support such a feature. They already have casual and competitive modes, so why not have an extra casual "controller only" mode? After all, PC gaming is all about options. I think it would be a good feature to have, making the transition for people from console easier and allowing otherwise more serious PC gamers to chill on the couch in a multiplayer game.

Under no circumstances would PC gamers tolerate having to have their keyboard/mouse "disconnected or non-functional". It would be so much easier to simply have the game ignore input from the keyboard and mouse, but being told you can't use your system's primary input devices because console players can't keep up would also have a savage negative impact on sales.

It feels like you're making a lot of excuses for how this could work by forcing PC gamers to use a controller, but they're all imaginary. You'd be better off telling console gamers to spring for a $30 USB keyboard/mouse combo if they want to compete than telling a PC gamer they have to use a controller because keyboard and mouse is too good.

The hacks for this would come out hilariously fast. My keyboard/mouse are now my controller! Woo!

Good point. I don't know the details of how a controller-only mode could be feasible.

I'm not trying to make any excuses, I think mouse and keyboard are great and the generally the superior input device in games. Someone who wants to be competitive should definitely go for m+kb. I just think it would be good to have a controller-only mode in some multiplayer PC games for when you want to play on the couch with other people who are doing the same. Basically console gaming on PC. I wouldn't want to take anything away from m+kb users, just add a seperate mode.

I'd take Halo: MCC or Halo 5 on PC with a 360 or xbone controller being mandatory.

This would work only if the game came with a controller. I think anyone gaming on PC would be smart enough not to freak out like the other guy suggests, but then again it's hard to tell these days. Personally I prefer a controller for non-RTS or strategy games.

Well yeah, it is like putting a wheelchair basketball team up against one that is not.

GTAV actually implements this, so does the Windows 10 version of World of Tanks Blitz. There's separate match making for controller and keyboard users.

The only thing is, it invites cheaters to join the lobby with a copy of the game modified to allow keyboard input in controller lobies for example...
