On a partially related note.

"Why are Western birthrates so low?"

ForWhiteSake is quoting/paraphrasing one of the anti-gamers complaining about the stat of video games. Their argument is that they're not trying to take games away, they're trying to make them better. But of course, they do take games away, either directly by campaigning for government/retailer censorship or indirectly by driving companies themselves away, as in this case.

"We just want to decide on what games should be allowed. But it isn't censorship."

Excuse me? We've had a sexual revolution and three waves of feminism for god's sake! Men and women should be allowed to express themselves in whatever way they want! Men and women should be allowed to dress in whatever way they want, and draw/design men and women the way they want.

Any person that wants to censor 'sexual' images is oppressing sexuality.

One of those feminism waves was not like the others, to say the least. Oppressing sexuality is perfectly in line with that wave.

It's a shame they don't fear backlash from people who want to play the game and don't care about the people who aren't going to play it and are just going to complain about everything anyway.

The people complaining probably wouldn't play the game anyway.

Hell give it a light porn rating and let the sales speak for themselves.

I need to start writing letters to people that make things I enjoy.

I think that would actually help. Writing in that is. People make these decisions because they fear a negative response. They almost never get a positive response when they make a more controversial decision and they never get enough of a negative response when they do pull something. We all need to be telling people how we think more, whether it be negative or positive.

The biggest problem is that many stores refuse to carry AO games. They could put it on Steam or something quite easily.

Parents wouldn't buy it for their kids then, and yes DoA does appeal to all ages.

I've never played these games because I'd feel a bit silly, but I like the idea that they exist... I mean, if people wanted to make a thunder from down under game, I'd support that too. It's not about "objectifying" anyone, it's about having fun in life and with the media. Some people are too damn serious about utter bullshit and they ruin it for the rest of us. Rest assured that it was always like this though. It's nothing new. They're just more vocal now due to the expanded media and medium of the current era.

What drives me into a rage over this is the absurd flip flopping these people are doing.

Gaming is hostile towards women because culture. We must alter everything about the gaming industry to try to encourage more women to participate.

The media is actively and openly hostile towards a developer's games. Well they just need to man the fuck up and release it anyways! Sure we'll rip it apart, savage it in reviews, and command people not to buy it if they don't want to be sexist. But still. What a bunch of cowardly pussies.

Well, before they were saying "we'll release it if the fans demanded it enough."

I can think of no better way to create a demand for this game than to tell gamers, "Political correctness is preventing you from having this"

inb4 your usual crew of pretentious social justice egoists fellating each other over bullying gamedevs from being able to have free reign over the distribution of their own artwork (yes, games are art, deal with it) due to their constant moral policing and peer pressure tactics to get developers to conform to their brand of what's right or wrong - or just outright scare them off.

What was that about them saying "we're not here to take your toys away"? Because that's exactly what they're accomplishing, regardless of what they say. They don't just want games with ideologically sensitive content to be censored - they want those games to be outright removed from the industry.

If anyone wants any game removed due to whatever moral reason, they're the enemies of gaming and game developers. If you can't accept games are an art form and you'd rather games that don't conform to your ideology be removed, consider yourself the same as a book burner.

But where do these "ideologically sensitive" people come from? What's their deal? And also...

...have they played these games they demanded to censor in the first place?

This left wing neo-puritanism is getting ready to surpass the ridiculous right wing christian puritanism that we had spent so much time gaining a foothold against. People need to stand up to these fools before it gets any more out of hand.

"Getting ready"? Can you tell me which game the "right wing christian puritans" ever managed to censor, ban, stop from releasing or removing from store fronts?

They seem to be at least 10 times as effective and terrifying.

The Christian right had their heyday before video games were such a big deal. However, they had a huge influence in the US on the movie ratings system, as well as what was allowed to be played on radio and TV.

Backlash? What backlash? The people who complain won't buy your games, anyway. Know your market and sell to them.
