It is a disappointment, to me. There are few equals to the games in the series. Humor with interesting combat isn't common, and most games that don't take themselves seriously (Borderlands, Saints Row) usually take it too far, where the Mother series never did.
I wouldn't mind this, if there were other options to go to.
Bastion was similar in this way. It ended at the perfect time, but was still too short.

I don't get why people compare undertale to mother... having played mother 1-3 and undertale, they are both completely different games. In tone, mechanics, and humor. Earthbound was quirky because it was a wonkey japanese interpretation of the american 90's (which inherently lends to a lot of funny characters). Undertale was made to be purposefully quirky and relate to a young audience. It isn't bad, but it is not similar to earthbound. Earthbound was a very confused game, hell, ask people about it when it came out and no one ever owned it Undertale is very clear and concise in how it wants to be quirky.
