Not the first time Nintendo has censored content on its platform to retain its family friendly image.

Should they? No.

Just slap a higher age rating on it, or an additional warning on the case and move on.

I clicked the link ready to be outraged... but the changes they made seem like an improvement to me. If the character is 13 and only a child, I don't see how making her almost naked can benefit the story line at all.

That said: the US market wouldn't be lapping it up like the Japanese so it all comes down to sales numbers. Nintendo is just maximizing profits.

I don't know the story line. Do you? It's up to the creators to decide what benefits and what doesn't, not a localization team.

I mean, it's probably not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but there's respecting the art and there's changing it. Let's put some pants on David, after all, it is a testament to both strength and youthful beauty.

99% of the time I'd be upset about something like this, but in this case, it seems like an improvement. A 13-15 year old kid in a bikini doesn't really have a place in a JRPG where there's combat and stuff. It's just a bit weird, and I don't think I need fanservice of an underage kid.

I'm not offended by the original design, and I still think the "censored" version looks better.

Nintendo knows that Western culture has SJW idiots they have to worry about.

Nintendo has a long history of censoring products released here in NA

And what good does that censor do? To appeal those who are not their audience?

Thanks for saving me $60, Nintendo.

This is nothing new. Japanese content is always censored for western audiences look at Fire Emblem something small yes but still censored most of it is fan service kinda stuff. There are more instances of it being vital to the story. This episode of Naruto is a great example. The guy they are fighting uses lots and lots of blood and its vital to the story. Well they edit out all the blood and paint it black. Sony kinda got around it by getting rid of regions. But you'll have to learn japanese if you really want the uncut version. This is nothing new. Nintendo is trying to have a different image in the west since people over here complain about every goddamn fucking thing.

On the one hand, stop changing things. Tharja's underwear deserves to be seen.

On the other hand, the 13 year old girl is wearing a metal bikini with underboob. Kinda distasteful and I could see a company not wanting to be associated with it.

The proportions aren't different; it's the camera angle. Before anybody wonders and skips the Editor's Note.
