Didn't play it, but wow, just checking metacritic the user reviews and critic reviews are night and day.
Dead Space was a pretty good game. I enjoued the hell out of it anyway, but I didn't pick up the next two.
Its sad when good franchises feel the icy grip of companies like EA who don't understand or care about their loyal fanbases. Again, I haven't played the game, but reading those user reviews confirmed what I already thought about the Dead Space franchise.

TotalBiscuit did a video/rant about the dissonance that sometimes happens between professional and consumer reviews after Mad Max came out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJANS0VTpbY
TL;DR (seriously, it's a 40 minute video): when everything's all said and done, the professional reviews and the consumers just sometimes have different ideas about what makes a product good. Some times people want more of the same. Some times reviewers get tired of more of the same.

The first one was ok, the second one was the best, and then the third was meh. Yes EA killed the franchise off with dlc and micropayments. We may never see a DS4.

Which is sad because it came in a time when horror babes were getting bland, and kinda put the horror back in horror game. Yes it did have some jump scares, but it also had tons of atmosphere. The jump scares were sprinkled through out, which I think is a good use of jump scares, never over use them but just enough to keep players on their toes.
