Women should be main characters according to the average percentage of women who play/make video games. I don't understand why they feel entitled to be over represented in things they've shown little interest in. I mean I kind of do actually because they've grown up thinking they shouldn't be denied anything even if they don't work for it or deserve it.

You'd get alot more out of this if you removed the stupid catharsis last panel and fixed all the errors made in the text.

Hell, you could add to it by just making this endless list of them spouting every single strong female.

In what way does that change things? This is a shit, no effort, /r/gaming quality post. The fact that it's getting upvoted so much is very troubling for the future of the sub.

Samus Aran's entry should be "(sans Other M)" not "(sans Prime)".

Otherwise... well-played.

I don't understand this, honestly. I'm not familiar with the word "sans," it's not part of my regular vocabulary.

EDIT: Now that Sans has been explained to me, I agree that "Prime" should be reworded as "Other M"

sans = without, minus, less, excepting

So saying that Samus Aran is a strong female character sans Prime, you are indicating that for some reason she is not a strong female character in those games, and are therefore leaving them out as an exception.

Since Other M was the game where they turned her into a whimpering fleshsack full of feels, I think the comic artist made an error.

It means "without". It's a regular French word, but I guess some English speakers try to use it to sound smarter.

Sans is literally without in french

Which is weird as my wife says that Other M is her favorite Metroid game. In her words, "It made Samus a real person by giving her back-story and believable flaws. Before that she was just an empty shell. This is why people like Batman! He has issues. I want more Metroid games with plot."

It didn't make Samus a real person. She already had a back story, implied in bits and pieces throughout the Metroid games, and explained more blatantly in non-game works.

Other M took a strong stoic woman and made her whiny and submissive for no other reason than to avoid having to explain another early game loss of powers. Despite having fought Ridley time and time again in other games, they also decided to suddenly give her a paralyzing case of PTSD. For what? "Dramatic effect"?

Maybe she never had much to say before (although Fusion had a significant amount of dialogue), but being a "strong silent type" and letting her blaster do her talking was what most of us had come to expect of her. Imagine if the next Legend of Zelda game gave Link a voice, and then used it to make him a whining bitch. Would you laud it for finally making him a "real person" with "believable flaws"?

It's like going from the badass and cunning Darth Vader of episodes 4 and 5 to the whining angsty Anakin in episodes 2 and 3. His value as a character aside, it's so disappointing after the other movies displayed him as one of the most feared warriors in the galaxy.

They have made her character smaller over the years Other M she was talking orders from a man. That is just not how she rolls.

Karan Sjet from HomeWorld. Oxanna Tristos and Umagon from Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun. Grace Nakimura from Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers. Megan Reed and Faridah Malik from Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Karan Sjet is not only your character in Homeworld, she also basically sacrifices her fucking humanity to become the nervecenter of the fleet.

Grace is actually playable in GK2 and 3 I believe.

[–] RangerSix 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

Not only that, but Karan was the scientist who developed the neural interface tech that allowed her to become Fleet Command... and she became Fleet Command because she wasn't willing to risk anyone else's life (and/or sanity).

I totally forgot about Gabriel Knight. Was she playable in the first one? I remember her being playable in II and I think III. I hope they actually finish that series. I haven't played the remake yet either.

I don't remember her being playable in 1, but she was pretty damn critical as I recall.

i had this exact conversation with a girl on teamspeak without the accusation of me raping her. also we were playing wildstar so i mentioned the strong females in that game also. I thought it was funny she was complaining about how there were no strong females in the game when the head badass of our faction, artemis zin, was a female. plus the greatest warrior in the history of the game's lore was also a female. but hey, oppression doesn't need facts.

I'm looking at my favorite games on Steam right now so I'll add a few: Elizabeth from Bioshock: Infinite, Kate O'Hara from Desperados, every female character from Far Cry 2 (main character if you choose them, friendly NPCs if you choose a male protagonist), Alyx from Half-Life 2, Nuna from Never Alone, Shaundi from Saints Row.

Heh shaundi... what about the hacker chick, Kacey? Keesey? I thought she was named after (and probably VOed) by a porn star but I was wrong.

Ah yes, Kinzie. To be completely honest, I've only played SR2 because I can't run III or IV with my current rig, but yeah Kinzie is real cool. I followed a let's play of SRIV though, and the "sex" scene with Kinzie cracked me up.

edit: I looked it up, only two porn stars voiced characters in SR, Tera Patrick and Sasha Grey.
