Welcome to the future of AAA. Crap like this makes it more important than ever to not pre-order.

...I never asked for this.

Sorry, obligatory. Speaking seriously, this isn't the future I want for video games. I wrote about why supporting this DLC scheme is stupid in case you need to convince somebody (you probably won't have to).

At some point, AAA game is going to be synonymous with "Dynamic Synergistic Storefront". Individual levels will be ten dollars each in Super Mario Multiverse 17. You'll pay twenty-five cents every time you kill a man in Assassin's Creed Secret Templar Lunar Colonies. You'll be able to pay point-&-click adventure games to solve their own puzzles.

You already do paypay point and click adventures to solve their own puzzles on android.

Not to mention that they want us to pre-order a digital release, like some magic video game deity somewhere will say "We have sold enough digital copies on Steam, time to stop sales". It's all stupid as shit, so sick of pre-order culture, Gamestop started this garbage and the industry ran with it.

I don't preorder anymore either, but their logic is: we'll reward you for gambling that our game might suck or not work at all, which is sound.

I don't preorder now because I preordered Far Cry 4.

Because Best Buy often gives you a $10 certificate for pre-ordering. Couple this with Gamer's Club Unlocked, and now my games become $38 new.

First legitimate reason I've seen.

Pre-orders started because of retailers running out of copies of a game on opening week. A game that popular, I can understand. Whatever it's devolved into is just sad.

The shitty thing is I'm legitimately excited for this game, Human Revolution was great and we NEED more "cyberpunk" ish games to play. The problem is the marketing and the fact that they are locking content behind garbage paywalls and claiming it's "player choice".

If only AN AMAZING GAME COMPANY THAT JUST RELEASED A THE BEST REVIEWED GAME WAS MAKING A CYBERPUNK GAME http://cyberpunk.net

Four. Days. Early.

Fuck your pre-orders and seriously go DIAF whichever publisher is behind this.

And with that, Square Enix joins EA in the group of game companies I won't do business with.

Who even buys physical copies of games any more? "pre-ordering" as a concept has been entirely obviated by the digital distribution age.

I only buy physical games for PC if they're cheaper than digital. Sadly, I was able to get both Assassin's Creed Unity and Assassin's Creed Rogue in physical format for almost $20 less than the Steam bundle during the summer sale.

I do, but I'm more of the collection niche than most. I really only pre-order just so I can get the money on it now and plan out my budget better
