Quite happily there is a PS3 emulator for the games that is being continually developed/improved for whenever my hardware fails.

Ha!
Imagine the irony of having stubbornly put your PS3 away because you couldn't play newer games/movies on it, only to find out later you could run an emulator on an OS installed through the same feature the manufacturer tried to remove and play them anyway.
Does it work on Linux or will I have to install Windows?

I am not sure. I got the windows binaries version but I imagine they did compile more than just windows.

Yup, linsux binaries on there too. Sorry, neither linsux (microsoft is on the linsux board, embrance extend extinguish) nor windows itself is my overall target long term. I still watch and advocate the open winNT project, ReactOS (alpha development, not suitable for use yet). Do I wish our options were better? Yes.
