I remember following Giant Bomb around the early 2010s. Those guys were unique and reputable in that they made their own website after giving the finger to advertiser influence and corporate greed. They had a strong podcast, great camaraderie, a user-generated game database, and arguably the first big Let's Play videos. In 2011, they get into Time's "Top 100 Websites," which gets them enough clout to get bought out by Whiskey Media, bringing in a few golden years of the website.

A few years pass by and Whiskey Media gets bought out by corporate giant CBS. CBS says, "Oh, this Gamergate/SJW stuff is getting trendy! Let's push it all so we get more clicks!" Giant Bomb then becomes a shadow of its former-self as the crew is forced cater to Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian. They even started refusing to review/cover certain games (Kingdom Come: Deliverance) because they didn't want to align themselves with a medieval game that "didn't have colored people or strong female characters." It's sad because the original Giant Bomb crew most likely did not care about any of this bullshit (especially Ryan Davis who passed away before the liberal shitstorm began); they just got swept away in the tide. They're still up and running, but that original raunchy, down-to-earth, dude-bro atmosphere is long-gone.

GamerGate means nothing, video games don't need politics, and I'm ashamed to know these details.
