Of the writer / creator of the character to act as if the author owns how the reader/viewer is allowed interpret the content of the art. The writer has zero say after the work has been published, to think he/she/it has anything extra that they couldn't express in the work itself to explain their intentions is an insane persons control freak nature oozing out of their asshole.

Video games, particularly ones from the bigger publishers are basically the next Hollywood only there are no star actors / actresses to make say stupid shit to stupid people in order to tell them what to think but its basically the same writers, the same stories, the same way of thinking about the audience, that they can be controlled and herded into thinking by the writer. They aren't half as smart as they think they are and just think inserting identity politics or political messages of any kind is their mangnum opis of player engagement and story telling.

The character is meant to be a Borg like collective being made up of several individual characters so if you said he or she that would misgender the characters other "characters" which would upset these separate fictional player characters that have no feelings nor anyway to express this to the player anyway, they are basically telling you that you should feel sad to missgender the fictional character. The problem is gamers generally speaking do not feel any connection to the player character, its just their tool to use in order to win the game. A lot of studies have been done trying to find a way to tie player feelings to the player character in the same way that Hollywood can do with its characters, problem is it doesn't work the same way and most people never get invested in their avatar and instead see it as a blank slate where the outward appearance is all they really care about. Nobody thinks they are Mario they just see Mario as the thing they are in control of and have a simple job, go from the left side of the level to the right side until you win.
