Wow that's fantastic. I'm not sure why Obsidian is giving Kotor 2 attention now after 10 years, but since I love and own the game, I am looking forward to the upgrades and the restored content. Maybe Bioware will follow suit and give similar upgrades to Kotor?

Wish KOTOR 1 got the same.

Then you could defeat me in HD.

I wish they would do the first one RATHER than the second one. The first was so much better than the second. Although, if there is a lot of restored and/or altered material--such as faces, voices, dialogue, textures, etc., and a way to modify equipment crafting, then I might give it another shot.

I wish they would at least make KOTOR 1 playable on windows 7. No matter how many fixes I try it always ends up crashing.

I know this is going to be controversial but with the restored content mod, KOTOR 2 is... I feel the superior game.

Only issue with that is Obsidian doesn't have an overbearing corporation that owns it. I feel that EA is the reason why we haven't gotten an improved KOTOR update yet. In due time, maybe. Perhaps the KOTOR II update will spur them to action.

True, also from EA's perspective, fixing up Kotor may be seen as a competitor for their MMO ToR. Its likely EA would never approve a budget to improve a product that isn't likely to increase in sales, and could be a potential competitor for their MMO.

Don't quote me on this, because I can't remember the source, but I read that Obsidian were pushed HARD to make a Xmas release, and were essentially barred from any kind of update to fix the ending (since it'd be a tacit admission of the game having been released in a rushed, incomplete state).

Yeah, as others said, SWTOR was according to EA effectively KOTOR 3. Personally while I had some fun with that game when it released, what they did with Revan was terrible - I have purged it from my head canon. I hope you are right though and a good response spurs another chance for a true sequel.

Well, it wasn't Obsidian who did this update. It was Aspyr, a Linux & OS X porter who added these features and decided to give it to the Windows version as well.

So probably just Disney trying to push the Star Wars franchise a bit more?

It sounds like Obsidian isn't really giving Kotor 2 all that much attention. According to the linked article and video, they updated it for widescreen & platforms, but the content updates such as the restored content are still just from modders. We're not seeing anything official.

Bought both for Xbox when they came out, when I recently discovered it was also on steam I bought it for that too.

You can play the first one on Android and maybe iOS as well.

Not being able to natively play this game widescreen was a major downside to playing this game recently. It's going to be awesome playing this game all over again!

Oh man, I played this game so many times with so many mods. I may have to revisit it yet again now.

Sweet! Loved this game, although it went a little more over my 14-year-old head that the first one did :P can't wait to relive a classic!

I really hope the PC version has controller support too.

The article affirms controller support!

Oddly enough, though I'm a PC Gamer, I played KOTOR first on the console! Just as good, imo.

zen question of the day: Seeing as the original xbox was a 100% off-the-shelf PC, does it still count as a console or is it a weird part of the glorious master races ancestry?

I played it on console back in my younger days. I couldn't afford a gaming PC! I'm glad I'll be able to play it on PC now and get the same experience.

Wow, I've needed to replay this just because of the Assassin droid facility, but with workshop support... Think I have to hunt my copy down!

...It's a decade old and I only played and beat it for the first time last week...and now it gets wide screen.

Time to play it again!

This will be my 40th playthrough, I think?

Will I guess I can have an excuse to try the dark side now. I normally don't play games twice because I have too big of a steam library to feel good about it, but now I can pretend it's a new game.

Don't forget /v/KOTOR, that's where all the Knights of the Old Republic hang :)
