Are you using TCP or a UDP?

I would recommend not going the easy route and taking the trusted client, it's too easy to cheat. Calculations should always be done server side.

so, i should get one players game acting as the server then run other players off that?

i know how to build a single player game at this point, but not how to wire in multiplayer online

Depends on the requirements for the game, it could impact performance.
