Thank goodness for people who call out nonsense.

Also, why the baseless accusations in this day and age? All it takes to research things today is search engine and archives like archive.is, archive.org, and megalodon.jp. One false statement, and people can look up something with minimal effort to see that it isn't true.

These people and their followers don't believe in fact checking. Their moto is literally "listen and believe" if you don't believe me look it up.

AND you'd be surprise by how many people take it at face value.

Heh, that is a better motto than theirs.

Funny how a site that catalogs memes is better at fact checking and providing fair commentary than most of the mainstream press, gaming and otherwise.

Notice how TB invites you to fact check him. None of the people stirring up this nonsense narrative do that, because the facts aren't on their side.

I feel like humans evolved by listening and believing ... as there wasn't any way to "look it up," previously. It really sucks that today we can't just trust people. :/

Not that that really excuses their behavior, but I think you're criticizing default human nature right there.

Amen to that. It's one thing to disagree with somebody, it's another thing to smear them with false labels and work day and night to dehumanize them in order to push your own ideas.

Total Biscuit is one of the only sources I trust. I don't always agree with him but he's fair.

[–] Jeronimouss [S] 0 points 62 points (+62|-0) ago

This.

He basically hates all games I love and loves all games I hate. I still get silent when he speaks because he's a very objective person and talks a lot of truth.

[–] AxiomBreak 0 points 24 points (+24|-0) ago

Exactly! Thank you, I am not very good with words. This is what I meant. It is damn infuriating to watch TB play puzzle games but in the end I still have a good idea of what to expect of the game. Him being bad at puzzle games actually makes me want to play those games even more.

That's the important thing to me, when I read game reviews or news about gaming. Even if I don't agree overall with his assessment I know that he's making a fair and balanced point. For example if he's pointing out an area in which a game lacks or falls short, he will back it up with examples or comparisons, it has some merit.

I like him because he's so articulate. I feel bad because he interacts with journalists a lot and gets frustrated with the way they need to spin things in order to get views. And righteous indignation is always a good feeling.

Yea it has gotten to the point where I will actively avoid 'traditional' gaming and tech sites. I place greater trust in Total Biscuit for video game news and Linus for tech news respectively. Even if i don't agree, at least i can be assured that it is honest.

The SJW movement really needs to shrivel up and die. It is not "justice", it is Fascism. Their narrative, opinions and ideology or death. Fuck that.

[–] RevanProdigalKnight 0 points 60 points (+60|-0) ago  (edited ago)

That and their tendency to "dox" people, spreading their personal information on the internet to other SJWs that will attempt to ruin that person's life, and then saying "Well it's not our fault. They're the one that upset us, they deserve it."

Doxxing should be a punishable offense.

EDIT: @InfoTeddy corrected me on my spelling of "dox"

[–] InfoTeddy 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago

Hey, some people from the internet might call you out and say it's spelled "dox", not "doxx".

Like this video of Adam Sessler screaming about how he'll dox you if you say anything he deems "hate speech", then greeted by uproarious applause.

[–] Diggit 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

Putting out information on someone that is technically already available should not be punishable. Shamed? Yes. But pushing that agenda isn't much better than being an SJW.

It's mob rule, plain and simple.

0
13

[–] Tisias 0 points 13 points (+13|-0) ago

It's not a grand mob out there, but rather fragmented tribal special interests clustering around tumblr, 4Chan, Reddit, and so on. It's not THE mob one has to fear, but various communities waiting to be "offended". Unfortunately, there's nothing so crazy, unfounded, or despicable, that you cannot find an online community supporting it.

The result is that a person conspicuously before the public (by choice or by chance) has to run the gauntlet of all these interests like the Warriors trying to get back to Coney Island. You have to hope that you either don't run afoul of a community's code or that you aren't seen.

That and people need to fucking stop the believe that they are treated like assholes because of there gender, sexuality or other non important things. No if you come out and say that person is a jerk then you are an asshole and will get treated like one.

Stage 4 colon cancer even. He is very lucky that it didn't spread. Not too many folks survive stage 4

"Only" stage 3, but he's still bloody lucky to be alive.

[–] EpicNoob 0 points 15 points (+15|-0) ago  (edited ago)

Stage 4 is designated for cancers which have spread to other parts of the body. There must be some confusion.

"Stage IV. This stage means that the cancer has spread to other organs or parts of the body. It may also be called advanced or metastatic cancer."

There is a few instances of him saying on twitter that he was going in for chemo and his detractors would start a controversy when they knew he couldn't reply. Its psychological torture tbh.

Why does this surprise you? It's literally the exact content that one of their rules prohibits...

Oh, it doesn't surprise me at all. I just have the feeling that those rules actively prevent me from informing myself what's going on in the gaming world.

In other words: Bye, bye /r/games. And a bit more long-term: Bye, bye reddit.

It was posted again here. However, I'm pretty sure it will get taken down again. I don't really see how it's against their rules though, I think they took it down because it was not "gaming" content. However, I have a hard time believing that the whole situation that stems from gaming (devs, journalism, etc.) isn't about gaming...

EDIT: Whoops, you mentioned /r/games, I was talking about /r/gaming :P it was taken down from there too.

Is there a /v/gamingnews section?

We're in that war now. This is a new kind of war, fought with keyboards. As crazy as all this is, I'm thankful that we have the tools and good sense to wage these kinds of ideological wars without loss of life. While this is a gaming issue on the surface, it's all tied up with very serious issues involving censorship, ethics, propaganda, and corruption. And we're finding these issues are not just with gaming, but with many aspects of our society. People have killed each other over much less, and while much of what is going on makes me question my faith in humanity, I must remind myself that we're living in an incredibly peaceful time compared to most of history (and much of the rest of the world today) and we can't be too hard on ourselves. We're doing ok, despite the bumps along the way.

Oh no, no no no no no...how could people sink so low... He doesn't need the unwashed masses flinging baseless accusations at him during what may be the most difficult moments of his life. You can hear it in his voice, he is legitimately affected by this-- and who wouldn't be? This kind of stress takes a physical toll on you, and I think the real injustice here is that TotalBiscuit is having years of his life shaved away from what amounts to pathetic assholes with a smattering of followers posting slander for internet points.

My heart goes out to TB. I think I heard that he attempted to distance himself on more than one occasion from the scene. I can't say I blame him.

Yea... yea... it bums me out. I like TBs game reviews because its just dry facts. Hell, even most of his other stuff like ClanWars is PG13 at most. Hard to imagine that someone who essentially stayed out of gamergate, apart from voicing his support for gaming journalism ethics, would get so much fucking grief.

Normally i'd probably shrug and say deal with it, but have to say, that whole cancer business sounds like more than enough shit for someone to handle, let alone all this nonsense.
