I'll say it. I do not trust Nintendo to not fuck that up. They can't even get an online community together or have decent online gaming services, which really makes me doubt they could make a phone that would be better for anything other than mobile games.

If this were the platform they were shooting for with their next handheld, I might bite. It would allow them to play into the mobile market they want to join. This would only be okay as long as they continued "AAA" handheld game support on the platform as well. Combine the two and you avoid alienating a customer base.

Agreed, Id say Nintendo would do to this what Sony did to the Xperia Play.

But the Play had a very good PSX emulator IIRC

Yeah, not only that, but a smartphone OS has a lot of variables with installed software that affect performance. With a dedicated console, you have consistent performance so programmers can take full advantage of the hardware without worrying about Facebook using up all your ram. Also I believe Nintendo believes in separating game machines from work, and now I am realizing how bad it is having the same PC for games and work in terms of distraction.

What I did recently was set up two profiles on my PC. One was named after myself for personal place, one was named after my freelance company for professional work. I would install games and stuff on my personal account, and all my professional apps on the other account.

Yeah, I already have a phone, and mobile games suck. Nintendo should just stick to portable consoles. Those are better for gaming in every way, since they can be more powerful, last longer, and have far better control schemes.

I also don't like the idea of a nintendo phone. Maybe a tablet or something, but I don't think anyone would ever trade in their current phone for a nintendo phone.

So Nintendo walks into a bar and buys OnePlus.

Play games from the competition via the Play Store, turning a Nintendo device into a bearer of low-quality garbage (Candy Crush Saga should never be allowed near a Nintendo device…)

Yeah! Fuck doing what I want with a device I bought! I want only high-quality licensed proprietary shit on my devices!

It looks cool, but I think it's so utterly stupid that it will never happen.

Spot on..

Hybrid phone's are a piece of shit and to do those sorts of game's any justice the thing would be the size of a brick with a controller to match..

Now let's be honest Nintendo has it's share of shovelware. People talk about not enough games, but 99% of them are just shoevelware that no one wants. The Wii was especially plagued by this.

Wait I have to choose between plugging in the battery, the storage or the camera? It seems like all these things depend on each other.

My guess would be an extra battery to help with the drain that gaming on a phone causes and expandable storage (maybe that's where the game cartridges will go?)

It's still a pretty crappy design IMO - that controller attachment wouldn't survive a single drop, 3 cameras (because customers want more cameras these days right?)... what's new about this that you can't already get in a modern smartphone with any controller attachment? Oh right the Nintendo logo. Pass.

Also, with Nintendo currently being about 8 years behind with their hardware and falling fast, I wouldn't trust them to design any kind of smartphone - let alone one that's meant to be a gaming device too.

I'm actually playing Pokemon Emerald right now on my iPhone 5.
Using GBA4iOS for emulation and it works perfectly. Touchscreen with instant feedback is a thousand times better than a Gameboy ever was.
GameboyTouch maybe?

I agree for touchscreen games and non time sensitive games like Pokemon, but it's tougher to play an action game with touchscreen controls. I like this controller concept, but the design seems like it can be improved upon.

Cool story bro. Virtual high five!

Funny thing is I haven't played Pokemon since Red and Blue came out. I just picked up playing Emerald last week on my Nokia Lumia 520 and the emulation on that phone works flawlessly too (it also autosaves, so if someone calls you, you can just pick up right where you left off before the call).

I would just love for Nintendo to loosen up on their IP a little and let me play Pokemon on my existing Android phone. They don't make hardware that's all that great anymore.

I really like the modular aspect of it. It'd be cool if you could plug in a better gpu too so rather than buying a new phone every year, you just buy a better cheaper part.

Agreed, having removable and upgradable parts would be awesome!

Man, this is why I love Voat, where everyone in this "exclusive" club can have a decent, thoughtful conversation and not screw around like on reddits (where this same topic was also posted).
