Other than the comment about banning games that are straight up trolling (which is semi-vague and subject to some interpretation and could hypothetically be abused) most of that sounds pretty good.

Giving users the power to manage what content they see is a good thing. More sites should head in that direction and build tools to accomplish that.

True, but probably necessary. If they drew a bright red line, trolls would turn to the time-honored game of "I'm not touching you!".

[–] Rakosman 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago

Not only that, but giving people the ability to manage their own stuff is straight up common sense. Cheaper for the companies, too. That they don't all do it begs the question of why.

[–] ShinyVoater [S] 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

The reason Valve's throwing away the curation of Steam is because of the backlash over the Waifu Holocaust back in June. Other platforms may follow along, but only after the consequences for Steam become clear.

[–] TheTrigger 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

You know (((why))). It's all about controlling public narrative. The only reason that I can think of, for valve making this move now, is lost revenue from less censor-happy competition.

[–] l_voated_today 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

The question is will some titles be buried unless specifically searched for?

shipping games with controversial content.

A white male firing a machine gun in a WWll game.

[–] Schreiber 0 points 14 points (+14|-0) ago  (edited ago)

You must have gotten that from some bigoted textbook.

Today historical revisionist have declared that for every single british white male soldier, there is 1 tattooed female obeast, 1 brown dude, 1 black dude, 2 asian sidekicks (a paki and an oriental), 1 non-binary person, 1 female like half-android with bionic arms, and 2 faggots (one who cuts his dick and one who keeps it to fuck other men) who fights alongside him and who are actually the "good guys." The british white male soldier is secretly evil and plotting with the evil nazis. And of course, all the german soldiers are all straight white goyim who are 100% pure evil.

[–] WeekendBaker 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Can I play as the Germans then

[–] Cat-hax 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Sounds like alot of work to pander to 1%

[–] AlwaysFeral 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

The white male firing the machine gun into the chest an actual Nazi soldier, and not some vague representation of one.

[–] Dortex 0 points 10 points (+10|-0) ago

So does this mean huniepop will finally be uncensored?

[–] lbruiser 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

Dude, just play bejeweled on one side of the screen with porn open on the other =)

(Just messing with you).

[–] TheTrigger 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

Asking the important, hard-hitting questions, I see.

[–] firecat 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Nope, they said they would give people tools to stop sex games from being seen not stop sex games. They did nothing but hide their most hated games.

[–] ShinyVoater [S] 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

I seem to remember the "patch" being nothing more than a zero-byte file, so it's possible they might convert it to an in-game setting. Most games in need of real patches probably won't change their Steam editions, though.

[–] Alopix 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

What are the default filters?

If nobody can see it by default that's the same as banning those games and worse, it's dishonest

[–] BlueDrache 1 points 2 points (+3|-1) ago

It's the normies that keep defaults. And we don't care about normies.

[–] DeliciousOnions 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

We all started as normies, man.

[–] Alopix 1 points 0 points (+1|-1) ago

The fucking profits come from normies. A financial shadowban. There will be devs putting up games and wondering why nobody can see it, then I'm sure steam will come in and "help" them "optimize" their game so it "reaches the biggest audience"(fits the secret content policies to have it be un-hidden)

[–] matthew-- 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

Well if I had to choose a company to play their games for thousands of hours, Valve would be up there.

Damn dota2 took a lot of time out of my life.

[–] Atticus_Lowry 1 points 4 points (+5|-1) ago

Seems like they are making an honest effort. Good for them.

[–] speedisavirus 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Doesn't sound too bad
