I'm a PC gamer but I liked him, he had good charisma. Very sad, I didn't expect it at all either.

PC gamer too, but the N64 is my favorite console. Many great memories. It's sad that he died young like this, wasn't expecting it at all.

Duckhunt was my favorite game ever. RIP.

That was like one of the first games they ever released.

It sounds like you are saying it was down hill ever since.

It was a bit of a joke, you see? Duck Hunt was released in 1984. Mr. Iwata did not join Nintendo until 2000. Interesting that no one picked up on that.

how do you know that? because he made video games?? i'm not trying to be disrespectful or anything but claiming that someone that you dont know is going to make it to heaven because he sold video games is...lets say... gullible at best.that he was a genious thats for sure

Agreed. It happened so suddenly. Unlike Steve Jobs, I actually looked at Iwata's presentations.

Sad. I thought he was doing better. He was a coder and a gamer not just a suit leading a game company.

Here's a video of him playing a game he made, Balloon Fight on the NES.

That was really awesome to watch. Thank you for linking to it - I'd probably never have seen it otherwise.

After watching that it makes me sad to see Nintendo struggle as it has recently. That video and the E3 Nintendo Direct with Miyamoto and his Super Mario Bros. grid paper was so interesting.

Just goes to show that even geniuses can struggle to connect with gamers across multiple generations, but I hope their next console integration is a success...

His keynotes at GDC were always great too. I'm mobile and can't find any now but they may be on YouTube somewhere. RIP Iwata-San

We're going to see a whole different Nintendo once whoever's next in line takes over. Just like Apple did when Steve Jobs died. Maybe they'll finally open up their games to other platforms now though. We'll see.

This is not necessarily the case. While it's more likely for western companies, Japanese companies are much more true to their invisible company spirit. I think they will stay the way they are ... well, pushing forward on the mobile device gaming sector for sure (which they've announced a while back). It's a smart move anyway given the fact that the japanese people are really into mobile gaming.

I do not think that Nintendo will change much. For the mean time it appears that Mr. Takeda and Mr. Miyamoto will be taking over Mr. Iwata's duties. It is horrible that he is gone after touching so many people. Nintendo will live on, preserving his memory.

I was watching twitchplayspokemon after a 3-month break, they have just started their latest playthrough. It took me a few minutes to realize that they were talking about the true Iwata instead of an inside joke.

I was watching that little Pokemon tourney Justin Flynn had going. He thought chat was trolling to begin with.
