Wow, I am glad they removed it!

Now what about the irremovable malware/spyware added by the NSA to all Windows editions?

You mean Windows, itself?

[–] Alopix [S] 0 points 8 points (+8|-0) ago

They removed it, but by its nature, they already got what they wanted. It's purpose is to track whether you bought the game after seeing an ad, and which one. It does this the first time you run the game, at that point them removing it changes nothing. They already took what they wanted from you and thousands of others.

You mean the intel management engine?

Did you know that you have linux installed on your computer?

Of the whole list ESO is the only one I played for a while then dropped since they refuse to be an MMO every story quest forces you to single player, and My Time at Portia was on my list of things to keep an eye one for a sale when it came out and I could see what the full game looked like, just going to skip that now.

missed Kerbal space program, played a little bit of that but just needed to many mods that the base game didn't hold my interist to hook me into taking the time to mod it.

The only games I even recognize on that list are Elder Scrolls Online and Kerbal Space Program. Glad nothing that I have installed has it.

Fuck, why the hell would ksp need any reason to go online? I loved that game. Past tense used on purpose.

Btw, they just rolled out the update (1.4.4), removing this shit.

Haven't looked much into this, but just throwing this out there. What are the odds that this is something that is bundled with the Unity Engine? I'm trying not to assume malice to something that could be a simple oversight from an indie developer. That goes to most other games as well.

EDIT: Looks like based on this post from The Escapist 2 devs, that Redshell is used for market tracking. Again, I wonder how many of these devs just google'd "Marketing API", read a quick rundown, and implemented it in their games.

Not sure, I was curious to see KSP on the list at Spyware Watchdog so I read it a couple months ago. I always wanted to try it but that read basically destroyed any desire to give it a go.

Had ESO on ps4. Am I gonna die now?

[–] BB-3 0 points 8 points (+8|-0) ago

Yes, but only for using a console. It's PC spyware that's shipping in the games on Steam. It's already been removed from ESO.

I have unironically been adopting free-libre games more than ever lately. You just have to get over that mental slump of "free=low quality" that is implanted in everyone by marketing forces.

Imagine how bad it is on the mobile app markets. Phones are hemorrhaging data to apps. The culture on the phone for some reason is much more tolerant for this. It shouldn't be. I've been struggling to adopt free games...

In a security book I read it said that games are commonly / one of the main vehicles of malware. IE: old games on old mainframe computers were used to take over accounts.

Well if you're retarded enough to install any unnecessary software to a system that has privileged access to your network you're an idiot that deserves anything that comes to them.

Games are for your personal PC, not for a server that has administrator access to anything important,

Better than trusting these companies to remove this spyware themselves, you can block it yourself easily by editing the HOSTS file.

Open the HOSTS file at: %windir%\System32\drivers\etc\ using a text editor like Notepad or Notepad++

add these lines and save it.

GG redshell, no more tracking.

And that is why I pirate. Until companies can get their heads out of their asses, they don't deserve my money.

Oh, and I promise each company knew what they were putting in there when they included it. They're just sorry they got caught.

I bought civ 6 but civ 5 is better visually to me. I don’t like toony design and the gameplay isn’t that much different.
