Most of these came out within the same fucking month of each other, best damn period in gaming history.

Maybe it's nostalgia, but I can't remember very many shitty games. There were types of games I didn't like, but they all made attempts at improving with every generation.

While the power of the rose-tinted goggles are great, I don't think you're wrong here- this time period was very special in gaming. It was sort of in between the era when it became ALL ABOUT MONEY and when it was ALL ABOUT MAKING SOMETHING FUN. Not that I'm saying these games weren't meant to make money, just that there was more... passion involved in their creation.

Today, games feel soulless. Hollow. They're missing that human element of charm. I think that's what makes this different from nostalgic longing.

Of course not. If a game sucks then you stop playing it

Well there were shitty games back then too, but there wasn't a giant pile of barely-even-counts-as-a-game shovelware bullshit, which is what there is now. At least on Steam.

/u/ checks out. I take it you became a fan from the N64? Christ that system was amazing. So many great games, so many great memeories.

OOT trailers were the peak of gaming for me. Nothing has ever topped the thrill from watching OOT trailers, before the release. The first and last game I have ever preordered.

How old are you? I was a gamer ONLY back in the 90's, when I could still follow games and systems mainly because I could see improvements. You show me a game refreshed in the past 10 years and I can't tell which is new or old.

But I can't remember half the shit that came out before and I can't recall their release dates
