PS3 was probably the most expensive blu-ray player and the bulk of the people buying them still had CRTs or 720p screens. $799 at costco with few options to copy the discs. The games were upscaled and by the time it got traction the PCs issues were mostly corrected. Maybe it got cheap near the end but it was still shit along with the 360.

They weren't 1080p on any of the games only for the movies, and most people only had 720p or 1080i 30hz cheap lcds, if you ever saw 1080p on a 360/ps3 it was upscaled, and during the launch of the PS3 they were $600-800 at most stores. $300 maybe for some of the later generations but when they first came out everyone was flipping them after paying $799 retail.
