MOBAs. They are already releasing less of them.

God, what an awful sub-genre.

Mobas, like many fad genres are only good for the first popular ones. Whichever ones get biggest fastest and maintain drown out all the others because then people only want to play where the competition is.

WoW, LoL, Dota, Pubg/fortnite. Any lasting fad genre only lasts in one or two games on the big stage. Anything else is small community

I'm not saying that existing, established and succesful MOBAs should go away.

I'm just glad they are stopping the constant influx of clones.

They also seem to have stopped trying to integrate moba features in other games.

Anything made by a AAA company that involves a 50-60 dollars / euros upfront cost and shits micro-transactions like diarrhea from a horse. E.g., Star Wars battlefront.

I have had more fun playing indi games in the last 5 years than any AAA. ONLY exception was the Souls Series.

Same for me, Fallout 4 being the exception. Bethesda doesn't seem to have gone down the micro-transactions hell as much as the rest of the pack, but they are going there also. I dread what Fallout 5 will be...

That has really run its course. We may have already hit the point where the decline is already in motion.

When they announced state of decay 2 I was honestly surprised. I seriously thought we were done with zombies.

This needs to be higher.

How the fuck did battle royale games get so popular to begin with?

The matches last forever, and most of your deaths you're sniped or get killed without ever seeing your enemy. That's assuming you don't die from a glitch. Or get a terrible RNG roll so that you don't find good gear, while the guy that landed next door found all the best stuff.

Yep. I'd guess it will go the way of the tribes series of games did. A bunch of us pro-level players will keep playing for fun but the 99% will move on to something less frustrating.

It is ripe streamer food. Twitch users consume that crap game and are successful with it because the horrendous slow pace is mitigated with interaction with your audience. Outside of that, this game is the opposite of arena shooters where you have to jump to plenty of hoops to get back in the game after a death.

Battle Royale. It's just like the zombie modes that every game had back in the day. It was a giant fad that died out in less than a couple years.

What little popularity classical RTS games still have will probably be drained even further by the MOBA cancer.

Are you talking about Dawn of War III? That was a fucking disaster- developers took a beloved RTS title that the fans absolutely adored, and tried to make it into a stripped down MOBA with minor base-building mechanics.

This might be a "purity" thing; as time goes on, developers feel like they need to add something "new", so they rip elements from other popular franchises and try to cram it into a new title from a totally different genre. The result is a fucking mess.

I really hoped they would bring back the gameplay from the first game.

It really sucks they went the moba route.

I dunno, I think they'll always be a thing, but they'll be relegated down to a VERY small niche genre like business simulators or realism based flight sims.

Or overly complex. Victoria II as an example.

Few base builders left.
