Bullshit.

I use Steam for decades and play a fuck ton of pirated games while Steam is running in the background 24/7.

Steam has no fucking idea what I played outside of Steam. I always get "console rpg" or "strategy" or "turn based" games recommendation ONLY despite playing a fuck ton of pirated shooters games (I make it a point that I don't support fps industry), and of course other genre too like Skyrim and other first person open world games. That's because the only shit I bought on steam are jrpgs and strategy games.

The only shit it knows are the games I previously bought on Steam.

I would have agreed with you up until a few days back. I was playing a non steam game and well something odd showed up. A game I was playing showed up as a weird title in my recently played list. I hadn't played anything else besides this game during that time. I clicked on the title, which had some bazaar panel for it and it just loaded the steam store front page.

It came up with the title: "Space War". It still shows up in my recently played list and the panel/display art for it is now gone.
You can click on Review, Links and View Stats. When you do it doesn't bring up the game.

I can't find an explanation for this showing up and it is the first time I have had a non steam game show up in my played games list.

That is related to how you are playing the game. 'Space Wars' show up with certain cracked games that interface with steam. I know this because i torrented a game and every time i play it it says im playing Space Wars

Don't run Steam when you play cracked games.

In fact the age-old recommendation was don't connect to the internet when you're playing pirated games.

GOG.com is better anyway. Steam is 90% indie garbage. Other than that, I think I’ll make the change to a PS4.

GOG.com does seem to carry new releases now. I might give them a whirl.

GOG really is the way to go if you actually want control of the data you buy. You'll get an option to download an installer executable. I always burn those installers to physical discs. Can't describe how good it feels.

I have a longstanding refusal to do business with any company that treats me like a thief for giving them money. I don't shop nigmart, and I don't buy games that require a connected platform to play.

monitor my active tasks and services on my machine for games and then pitch me ads for games

Not entirely sure what you mean here. The games I'm playing and look at in the store? One of my (mild) complaints is that their recommendations are really lame. I've found more games by browsing or from off-site links than from the games they think I want.

But I've never "talked" or sent messages on steam, so maybe that has something to do with it. Have added 54 games to my library over the past 10 years or so, and just go to steam to play them. That's it.

Basically they know whats running on my PC. I'm not an expert so I don't know through what means they might accomplish this.

I'm pretty sure every website you visit can see all the other tabs you have open, as well as a lot of other info. I think I remember steam asking for some degree of control over my computer for certain games, so they probably have access to a lot of info too.

Pretty obvious. They are the Nintendo of PC gaming companies and are perceived as being unable to do any wrong. I have not bought anything from them or activated anything through them in years. If they are intent on monitoring our gaming habits to churn the money from our wallets the least they could do is recommend games that don't suck.

I forbid my sons from buying more Steam games just today. They're monitoring the forums and punishing wrongthink.

As soon as a company starts this shit, and I have proof, that company no longer gets my dollars.

What do people do in the forums? Are they like subverses focused on specific games?

I had trouble with xcom 2. Got to steam forum for help with crashing. They tell me My computer is junk, mods broke the game, and I'm an idiot. Then I got banned from posting there more when I rebutted their carp.

The only time I use them is when I have issues getting a game to work. But, yeah essentially as you describe.

You can't get away from SJW mods. Most of them are white goy race traitors that voaters so keen on giving free passes to.

Heck, I took my degree in Cali and oh boy, much more than 50% of white goys are libtarded as fuck. It's fucking crazy how bad the brainwashing is. Like I knew a couple of foreign students who always make fun of those dumb libtarded americans and their delusional world view.

It's crazy to think that there are people who think that all human are good-natured - it's just that they made a wrong choice or that you can civilize a somalian savage and make them behave like civilized first worlder. At this point it would be silly to blame jews, niggers, or muslims because many of these whiteys with naive world views are begging to be exploited.

haven't had this happen because I only launch steam when I'm going to play a game. but we should investigate and test this further.

I've spoken loudly at Walmart about old dvds and pc games that I have wanted and see them show up in a couple of weeks. It can be convenient, but it is a privacy issue.
