$50 for a claim to virtual land? This game is also selling ships for hundreds of dollars, right?

[–] MaunaLoona 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago  (edited ago)

$50 to pre-purchase land that doesn't yet exist in a game that hasn't been released.

But just think, you can walk around in a hangar to look at the ship you paid $200 for!

[–] ArsCortica [S] 3 points 5 points (+8|-3) ago

Yup. With no proper gameplay to be seen over the last few years.

[–] LisasDentalPlan 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago

...the last few years.

Try since 2012. It was even in development for a year before that.

Are people still throwing money at it?

IDK a whole lot about SC but what I’ve seen in 3.0 looks amazing. I wouldn’t mind getting on board with it, I play ED now.

o7 CMDR.

[–] Laurentius_the_pyro 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

It won't come out ever, it's been vaporware since 2012 but people keep shoveling money into the endless pit that is SC.

[–] Thrus2 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Yes it looks great and it looked great before, I held off on ED for a while because SC looked like the better game and started development first. Guess what one is out and has been for years, costs less, and hasn't side tracked into stupid FPS shit and arenas that are easy to get out and outside of the scope? I wanted a space game with ships and trading and combat and mining, the whole one world thing that you could take some stuff down for single or go into the online for some Eve like play would have been cool as well. what we have is limited ships in arena fights, with a side of FPS shooter in the docks, but still no open world space game that was the core and it is massively lacking. Last I knew they had an expected ship date of when it is done, I could get that but the kickstarter had a ship date! yes it did, it has been pulled and updated to when it is done after they closed taking money and had missed the date already, that single item there is enough for me to avoid the company as a whole regardless of if they ever get out the end product. But that product is going to be in development for so long that it will look good next to ED but SC is no longer part of the same generation of games as ED. They have waited to long I now expect it go well beyond ED in scope and graphics, after all ED is 2014 we are almost into 2018 and "when it is done" means at least 2019. It is expected to be like comparing CoD black ops 2 to WWII (look only at graphics and interface changes not gameplay), and that is if they release in 2019 most of us expect longer or a half finished to make another cash grab before closing doors and the online world dieing 6 months after release.

Then stick to Elite Dangerous because this is a likely a shekel-grab scam that is going to be stuck in development for the foreseeable future.

[–] Troll 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago

[–] albatrosv14 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago

This thing just refuses to die.

[–] mobius_swag 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

This project is running purely on sunk cost fallacy at this point, gonna be a hell of a shitshow when it finally tanks.

[–] King_Freya 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

The nice thing is though, that the people working on it and watching the project can then take that experience and hopefully put it towards a game that gets released. Even if it’s years from now, I’d rather have a space sim than no space sim.

[–] Mint_Chocolate 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

It's never going to release.

[–] ovix 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Yeah, but people just keep throwing money at it. If you give me $100 and ask me to move a bag of cement from one corner of the room to another, and then give me another $100 to move it back.. hey it's your money.

[–] Thrus2 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

Yeah but at least I can see the cement move, Their results feels more like asking me to move a bag of cement in a house and so I show you a photo of the bag (space sim) in the starting room; then the bag 1/2 way across (arena with space ships) saying it ripped and I have to get a broom and come back later to finish it; then when you ask me to just put it back I provide a photo of a chair (FPS) in the starting spot. The bag still hasn't crossed the room and it sure as shit didn't go back.
