Some people learn at different times man. I have younger cousins who just see Star Wars and shooting people, they don't know the whole story behind the game industry at this point. Stories like though, they wake them up and they learn, it's a long arduous process that never ends.

That's kinda besides the point. EA is not a successful company for tricking people once. Sucks if its your first time, most of us have been scammed at some point in life. The question is, can people learn from their experience or are they just satisfied about whining about it "hoping" that the company will grow a conscience after listening to their pitiful whining ?

EA has so much money, they can afford to experiment with the flock of retards to see what they can get away with.

That is something I really don't get.

Many of those AAA games are just reskinned shooters with one or two new gimmicks, and they charge full price for them, in some cases yearly.

How can people still be buying them in such numbers?

and the sports games with almost no noticeable changes

Then come the ass holes trying to deflect.

"Yeah we all agreed to stop pre-ordering but who really sticks with that.. "

Then they get upset when called out. I haven't pre-ordered any thing in years.

I haven't pre ordered anything period, and unless there's a physical thing I want to make sure I get, I won't.

This is literally the only reason I pre-order anything. My gold edtion N64 with both gold edition Zelda games. My Gamecube with bonus Zelda game disc.

You're giving EA a big ol' interest free loan when you pre-order. Think EA will ever return the favor? That's how much they think of you.

Seriously this, I don't know why in the last decade people suddenly started thinking these various companies were their friends.

I may be old but I've never understood this pre-order business. Like if you invest in a company that hasn't launched yet and it becomes successful you will likely multiply your investment, if it doesn't you´ll loose it. That is quite a reasonable risk to take if people think they know what they´re doing and understand what they´re investing in.

Investing in a game sounds like a similar amount of risk (promises of stuff that are in no way guaranteed to happen) and the profit ? Well you most likely pay MORE for the game, but no wait for it.... you get a free DLC and some tag that says "EPIC BRAVE PRE-ORDER PERSON" or some stupid shit. What the fuck are people even thinking, do they think digital games can be sold out and they have to get it before others ?

People are so fucking stupid, or I´m stupid for not understanding what reason ANYONE could have for pre-ordering. Sounds like the most stupid short-term investment one could make. I mean seriously, go play slots and at least you don't have to whine about someone tricking you. (Who am I kidding, you´d prolly blame the casino for playing dirty.... stupid idiots).

The only reason to pre-order is when they're giving limited edition items with the pre-order. I have never pre-ordered anything on PC. I used to pre-order with consoles but I don't even do that much anymore. Because now Nintendo has started to overly cash in on that.

At this point, if you're buying anything other than indie games you deserve to get scammed. All high budget titles at this point are cookie cutter, with very little variations. They're all mostly re-skins of the same old games.

Instead, we should be focusing on making game development easier and faster, so that those with creative ideas can create great games with a small budget.

I don’t get why indie games are considered the darling of the game industry.
Most of them are just shit.
And the developers that do make successful indie games USUALLY end up going to join one of the larger studios.

[–] GrandNagus 0 points 8 points (+8|-0) ago

I think what most people mean with indie games is independent studios not owned by some conglomerate.

idk about indie, but none of the good games I've played in the last year were AAA blockbusters. even the big JRPGs like Trails in the Sky 3rd aren't that well known by most.

Most of them are just shit.

Most, not all. Buy the good ones. Watch videos, read reviews.

[–] Shekelstein6M 2 points 3 points (+5|-2) ago

Then buy those that aren't shit and support those developers who build their own companies.

The soulsborne series is pretty fucking amazing and that's high budget. Although it did come from Japanese publishers.

I found the games to be pretty dull. Then again I find most console games to be pretty dull.

Already exists, its called SFML, Unity, Unreal Engine, OpenGL, Vulkan, game maker, godot. It is easier than it even has been. However game development is still tough because so much needs to be done to make a game and so much needs to be defined. You cant really simplify it any further unless you want to compromise on quality.

[–] Shekelstein6M 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

I know it exists, but I also know that it can be simplified, and it will be. It gets easier to build a game with each passing year. You don't even need to learn how to program now-a-days.

The biggest problem right now is art. It's terribly expensive relative to other parts of the game, which is good for artists, but not so much for the small devs. Things like unity store do make it far more affordable though. And as more and more people learn the trade it will become even cheaper. New technology will also make some art processes obsolete, like skeletal animation. With advent of new neural network solutions animators will soon find themselves with much less work.

Sound design will also be much cheaper in the future.

3D art will still be expensive to make though, because there's no good way to automate it. It's simply too abstract for computers. And with new hardware coming out each year the level of detail is constantly increasing.

There are plenty of indie games that are scams and/or pieces of shit.

Is it a surprise people get fooled by propaganda? No, its not surprising at all. They spend millions producing it, and target young men.

I think once someone gets fucked over, they should learn their lesson, but normies are stupid.
