This has been a long time coming, but I've hit the point were I gotta say something. Most of you probably already know what I'm gonna say, but here it goes.
I'm tired of the gaming industry. Some days I honestly wish it would crash and we could start back at zero again, because it has overplayed it's hand. I'm sick of day one DLC, and those cases where it's already on the disc and you have to pay to unlock it. I'm sick of micro transactions, and the games that swear they're not pay to win when the only way that resembles the truth is "technically correct". Or random lootboxes, that resemble a digital casino, and has been exploited in the past. Or maybe, paying real money for in game money to spend on digital items. Or how about when they sweeten the deal for pre ordering and give you that legendary weapon, and in return they get a guaranteed sale. Or how about console players that pay for the game and then gotta fork over more for online play. Or how about the "Super Special Edition" that costs 20 more dollars, and you get a map. Sounds like a bargain right? Did someone say Season Pass? Since they already got us use to paying for nothing with the pre ordering horse shit!
And I'm not even started, that was just money. Let's talk about how after we gave them all that money they sold us a broken game that is almost unplayable at launch, where some companies even just leave it to their customers to fix the buggy piece of shit. Or how bout those mother fuckers who slap "Early Access" on the game, then after they get your money they say to themselves, "Well we got our money, that must mean we finished the game." Or what about the beautiful E3 trailers we get, that starts the hype spinning like a hurricane, only to find out that was just a concept and the final product doesn't really look anything like it... "Who cares" they say, "we already got their pre order money."
Then that retarded intern says, "Won't this hurt our reputation?" To which they reply, "Yeah, but we'll just come out with another game trailer next year and they'll do it all over again." Then they laugh and laugh.
Or how about that DRM that straight up breaks the game, and locks the paying customers out, meanwhile the pirates have cracked that shit and can actually enjoy the damn thing.
If this game doesn't turn out how you want then don't worry, there's gonna be a sequal, then after about five of those there will be 2 prequals and a origin story for sure. Then once everyone is utterly sick of it, they put it on hold until the next generation of gamers show up, then it starts over again.
"We're not gonna send out review copies anymore, because we've learned people just buy our games."
Or how about the fact that some companies believe that all those games you bought years ago don't matter, because fuck backwards compatibility. "Why the hell do you need that?", they say. We're gonna come out with a remastered version of that, it's better then the original one you bought. We upped the resolution and added original concept art, that's worth paying another 60 dollars right?
What about the companies, developers, and game journo's that treat gamers like utter garbage, calling them racist and sexist and call them entitled. Oh I'm sorry, I just dropped a good chunk of money for this thing, silly me for thinking I'm owed something. Not like all the aforementioned are in cahoots with one another, as we've seen before.
Or maybe the fact that parasites known as SJW's have infected every level of the gaming industry, and they justify it cause they want to "clean up the industry" until everyone feels included.... yuh know, except the people that built the thing in the first place.
Im not going to, but I could go on with that for a long time. You've all seen what they do.
So this is what it's come to. I'm done.
Gamers are the dumbest consumers in all of existence. (That's just in general. Don't take it personal, you guys are pretty sharp.) I don't know of any other industry where the companies can treat their customers like this and they just keep on buying the product. I just don't understand it, they put a price on every single aspect of the game. Like buying a box of lego's just to realize your missing half of it and for a small fee you can build the rest.
HOW MUCH MONEY DO THEY FUCKING NEED!?
It's obvious that the majority of the industry has absolutely no respect for gamers...
Don't get me wrong there are good companies out there that deserve respect and admiration, but they don't come along very often anymore.
When they do they should be praised. But...
If any of these things are gonna change, we as a collective have to grow a spine. No more buying into any of this shit. Learn to hold on to your principles and go against the things that are bleeding you dry! And what so many people need to learn is, you don't have to consume what they feed you. You can skip that pre order, you don't need the expansion, hell let's just say it, you don't. need. that. game. I can already here people now, "I don't mind paying", "We should support developers so they don't go out of business", "But the game looks soooo good.", "I gotta, it's like, my favorite game."
All excuses. It's these excuses that got us where we are now. And what these people need to understand is, for a little bit of discomfort now (because not buying a game is so terrible) the industry as a whole could change for the better, and in our favor. These companies will claw to survive, so we need to teach them they better start working for us then.
This doesn't mean you have to go without. If you miss that big game you wanted because of the way it decided to do business most people need to realize there will always be another game that comes along that takes it's place and learns from the mistake of the first one. Hell, the first one might go free to play if you wait a little bit. Support people that actually care. Indie devs and companies that give you a good value for your money. They exist, you just gotta watch for them.
If we stand together as gamers we can change this corrupted industry, we just have to be patient.
Thanks for reading, this got long.
PS: I wanted to type this up forever now, but a gaming discussion I saw tonight pushed me far enough I finally got ambition to do so.
