You can solve most of these problems by waiting to buy games a year after launch, when the game is actually patched of its bugs, includes all DLC, and is half price. It's called Game of the Year edition, and you should think of it as the official release. Buying games before they include DLC is basically crowd funding the beta version.

Best advice for this for sure. I just bought Mafia 3 and Mad Max for PC for less than £10.

I called Mafia III a SJW game as soon as they released the first info on it. I was so right. I wont ever buy that POS game. Sad too because the I actually liked the first two Mafia games. Its looking like Farcry is following suit and making a redneck christian-killing-simulator.

Goodluck with Mafia 3, that game is the most repetitive piece of shit in existence. Couldn't make it a quarter of the story without getting extremely bored. Haven't touched it in a year. Seriously Goodluck

Even though CDPR is trustworthy I did this with Witcher 3 and finally bought it late last year. Still haven't even started it yet. I know it's epic but still I'm going to wait until I buy some new parts. My i7 3770k / DDR3 base setup is long in the tooth now. I know with my 980ti I can already run it well enough but I plan to upgrade the base components sometime in 2018. Worth the wait I feel. While everyone else is playing Cyberpunk 2077 for the first time I'll be clearing W3 while I wait for 2077's eventual GOTY / Final edition.

I guess the other benefit of buying W3 well and truly down the line from its release date (aside from its fantastic story, as someone who dropped 154 hours into the main game and DLC, you are in for an absolute treat) is that you signal to gaming companies that if they do it right, they don't have to try and desperately grab cash in the first week like a fucking Hollywood SJW lecture, they'll get continuing sales, i.e. a continuing stream of income, for several years afterward. That in turn allows them to invest with more certainty about where their next paycheck is coming from.

All of that said: since the gaming companies have no loyalty to you, show them no loyalty either. If 2077 sucks, don't give them a chance with 2077 Part II, drop the company entirely until they get their shit together again. Demand excellence from gaming companies and eventually you'll get it -- as CDPR's existence proves.

For what it's worth, Geralt runs like a champ on my 3770k/980ti at 1920x1200. If you're not in a rush though that's cool too, it'll still be fantastic when you have the time to get in there. First game I've bought the dlc for too, they put nice story in.

Yeah, this is what I have done for years. I think I bought two games on release and they were both buggy messes and after that just said "nope" and wait for everything to go on sale.

The unfortunate side is we have too many people in this current culture who aren't willing to wait for that delayed gratification and want everything immediately.

Your exactly right. I stopped buying the new games and systems when I realized they were selling me incomplete products at full price. Total bullshit. I'd rather do without it and wait for a year than get get ripped off and pay for each "update" as if they were an entirely new game, when they should have released then all for the purchase price. Playstation pissed me off so much with their $50 completely bugged games that I sold my PS3 and pulled out my original NES... guess what no patches, updates or internet access needed. :)

As for the rest - pirate everything.

I will not pirate a witcher game. They are nearly only studio that still make games not infected with this shit.

Better idea: put your money where your mouth is and pay honest developers. There are a ton of indie devs who actually care about their audience,, and I'd much rather buy six $10 indie games that are complete experiences than one $60 AAA game that starts demanding more money as soon as it's installed.

Welcome to Gamergate brother.

[–] Broc_Lia 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago

I don't see this as a gamergate thing. Gamergate was about SJWs trying to make the games industry PC, not about games companies exploring different monetisation options. The first problem is a problem no matter what you do, the second one is only a problem if you buy games that take your money in ways you don't like.

7

[–] Stabzy 1 points 7 points (+8|-1) ago

No, gamergate is about shit journalism on games.

0
4

[–] shrink 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

No, that's how it started. Everything is connected to everything else, and so it quickly spread like fire and enveloped things like why modern game industry is such unsufferable shit. You're right in that that is/was to core of GG, it's where everything started and is still considered the cornerstone; as it's said, "ethics in game journalism." But now GG loosely encompasses most things wrong with the industry as a whole.

[–] RevanProdigalKnight 0 points 14 points (+14|-0) ago

I'm holding out hope that CDPR (who, to date, have not practiced any of these shitty methods) ends up being uber successful and the publishers start following their lead.

Otherwise, even if the gaming industry crashes and burns, this is probably going to become a cycle unless we the gamers resist things like day-one DLC and micro-transactions constantly. If we let up for even a moment (which, given the majority of console gamers, is likely), the bean-counters and marketing people at game publishers will just latch in and start sucking again.

[–] shrink 0 points 12 points (+12|-0) ago

I've seen some early warning signs with CDPR in regards to progressivism. I won't say more about it or get specific since you should form your own opinions, but I'd caution against getting too...cheerleadery about them, or whatever.

Caving to social justice pressure and adding niggers to the DLC for Witcher 3 tells me that they're willing to cave for the trans-cry babies. Wouldn't surprise me if they added a tranny to the next game in the series.

Given that they are in Poland, the odds are next to nil. They would be more inclined if it increased sales.

who, to date, have not practiced any of these shitty methods

They advertised witchee 3 with GNU+Linux support, got per orders for it, and never explained why the game never released for the platform.

They sure had no issue taking the money and not giving it back.

Don't buy or play any game which contains SJW propaganda, is developed by SJWs, panders to SJWs, or is developed by individuals who pander to/support SJWs.

This a million times over. Main reason why I stick with 80/90s era. Being PC was mocked instead of gospel

There's no reason to ignore games without a Linux version unless you're a Linux gamer. Even if you aren't, it's still worth a couple points in the "good citizen" column if someone is doing that, but it ultimately isn't going to help Joe Windows User as a first order effect.

I'll still buy a game if I can run it under WINE, but I have to want it a good bit more. After all, some things work immediately, some things take a lot of effort, and sometimes a future update breaks stuff. I'm much more willing to buy a Linux game than a Windows game that I have to jump through hoops for. But I don't even subscribe to "no Tux, no bucks", and I certainly would never think a Windows guy should.

[–] Osmanthus 2 points 2 points (+4|-2) ago  (edited ago)

can't be bothered to add Linux support

#6 is completely unreasonable. You have NO IDEA how much work it is to build a video game. Porting to Linux is in most cases impossible since Linux doesn't support the technologies the games use. Its like asking a semi-truck to use an engine from a ford focus. You are asking too much.

0
5

[–] A_M_Swallow 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago

Then there may be a market opportunity for a Linux engine that supplies these facilities to games that people will buy.

Actually the technologies that many games use just don't support Linux. Technically speaking.

ackshually it's about ethics in gaems journalism

That's why gamergate failed. Had all the momentum and ager at the gaming industry, but self appointed figureheads demanded that no one goes after the game studios, and the sheep listened.

Noooooo! Don't boycott! We should have a buycott instead! Show them how much we appreciate their work!

The current state of video games sucks. There needs to be another gaming crash.

Almost the entire videogame industry is under control by the same marxist / communist ideology types. The only exception being indie developers and Nintendo which is why when things like the Wii are announced everyone in the (((industry))) jumps on them and laughs and tries to discredit them.

Let me ask all of you a serious question:

If you control about 80% of the videogame market do you need to waste money releasing a new console with the best high tech graphics or can you sell a piece of shit that is barely better then its predecessor because you know everyone who is a gamer has to buy it?

Do you need to innovate games in any way or can you release the same thing over and over?

The gaming market has followed the movie and music industry. Barely any talent, no new ideas, just dull repetitive garbage made to numb you as the (((creators))) try to brainwash you with marxist communist ideals. You can actually look at the stories of several of the former game developing giants and see them eventually eaten from within and have their work forced out of their hands and into the jews. The most obvious example being Blizzard and there was a huge thread on Voat not too long ago explaining the corruption in detail.
