I'm a big fan of all the old Microprose strategy games such as Master of Magic, Master of Orion 1 & 2, and any Civ game before 5 killed the series. (X-COM too OFC, but that's more tactics than 4x) I want to believe in a new MOO, but after the pile of fucking fail known as Master of Orion 3, I'm dubious that any new games won't shit in my hope-holes all over again.
I tried pirating NewMOO a while back and was not enthused, but I'm holding out hope that it will turn into a great successor.
Can any fans of the first 2 games, especially MOO2, let me know if the new game is a worthy sequel and/or reboot yet? If not, what does it fuck up the worst?

I like the new MOO. It's not amazing, but it's got much of the feel, good and bad, of MOO2. I don't know if my recommendation should have that much weight to you: I loved MOO1, enjoyed MOO2, and couldn't get into MOO3, but I was really thirsty for that gameplay when I picked up the new MOO, so maybe I'm overselling it. It's definitely a game I go back to every couple months, though.
