I'm a big fan of all the old Microprose strategy games such as Master of Magic, Master of Orion 1 & 2, and any Civ game before 5 killed the series. (X-COM too OFC, but that's more tactics than 4x) I want to believe in a new MOO, but after the pile of fucking fail known as Master of Orion 3, I'm dubious that any new games won't shit in my hope-holes all over again.
I tried pirating NewMOO a while back and was not enthused, but I'm holding out hope that it will turn into a great successor.
Can any fans of the first 2 games, especially MOO2, let me know if the new game is a worthy sequel and/or reboot yet? If not, what does it fuck up the worst?

Distant Worlds isn't old, I just meant that it's graphics are pretty simple. But the game itself is incredibly complex.
Yeah, the dev's goal for Stellaris was to combine all the big sci-fi tropes into one game. So you get 3 FTL types, lots of classic space weapons, all the standard empire personalities and so on.
You should play vanilla first, but I find that mods help it alot.
