Interesting article. I initially got to know Chmierlaz via his involvement in GamerGate (though he mostly remained at the sidelines); later bought The Vanishing of Ethan Carter and found it to be a pretty good mindscrew experience despite of it being a mere walking-simulator from a gameplay perspective.
CD Projekt Red picking up the series imho was the better outcome - it's not that I don't think that Chmielarz is a bad writer/designer, but if I understand this correctly, they would have had to follow the original Witcher novels - and turning books into video games usually does not work well unless you have some degree of artistic liberty.
