I agree with your take. But for me to get hot about in game-censoring, I need more context.

What's the game, is it child-rated, what is actually in the filter, can the filter be turned off, is the filter universal or just for public/zone chat...

Well, there's part of the answer. Rated E for everybody.

If they're aiming for kids in an environment with chat features, they're going to set up filters just to give them legal and PR cover. Remarkable shitty filter to nuke the word "forget" , but games aimed at little kids tend to be heavy handed with that sort of moderation. Last thing they want is some telegenic six year old asking mommy what a cumgargling gutterwhore is, mommy finding out junior saw it in the game, and then the whole lunatic lot turning up on the six o'clock news.
