So if you're a lazy fuck like me and like using Shadowplay, the driver updater or even optimising your shitty games then this is for you.
nVidia rolled out GeForce Experience 3.0 a week ago. With it comes the change that an account is required to use it. You have a choice. Google, Facebook or a nVidia account. There is currently no way around this in the current release. Now you may be wondering, why the fuck does nVidia want me to make an account? Here's the reason they offered:
Q: Why are you requiring an account to access GeForce Experience?
A: An NVIDIA account is needed to deliver rewards and giveaways, GameStream pairing, Share features, and more.
Now this wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't fucking mandatory. I for one don't give 2 fucks about rewards, giveaways, or any of that shit. Just let me record my games, update my drivers with ease and fuck off. Except there's another catch.

Information collected by the SOFTWARE includes, but is not limited to, CUSTOMER SYSTEM'S (i) hardware configuration and ID, (ii) operating system and driver configuration, (iii) installed games and applications, (iv) games and applications settings, performance, and usage data, and (iv) usage metrics of the SOFTWARE. To the extent that Customer uses the SOFTWARE, Customer hereby consents to all of the foregoing, and represents and warrants that Customer has the right to grant such consent.
Yeah, nah. Get fucked nVidia.
Rumour: There has been reports of obnoxious game advertisements in the driver update section of the new Get Fucked Experience. Yes, even worse than what it was. If/when I find easily verifiable proof I'll update this section.
So what can you (yes you goats) do?
There's a few options:
-
Email/Tweet/Facebook/Call/Write a letter to nVidia and let them know how fucking retarded they are. CC Intel as well while you're at it.
-
Use a previous version of GeForce Experience found here. AFAIK it is still possible to use an older version for driver updates. How long that will work for is unknown. If you choose this option, rename the Setup.exe in "C:\ProgramData\NVIDIA Corporation\GeForce Experience\Update" to stop it trying to force the update upon you whenever you run GE. Alternatively, follow these instructions.
-
Give nVidia the middle finger and plan your next upgrade on AMD. This will be my choice unless this shit is fixed and I've been an nVidia user (and preferring it over AMD) for the better part of a decade now.
-
Sign in through your facebook, google account, let them harvest your data. May as well install Windows 10 while you're at it.
Just a Snowden quote to remind you why you should give a shit about your privacy.

Can the data collection be reverse engineered to feed false data?
[–] iamrage 0 points 5 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago (edited ago)
That would make for an awesome AdBlock type application. An application which would feed false data to any other application seeking it directly from your computer without your permission.

I love this idea! :)
[–] Ghetto_Shitlord ago
Probably, but their system would learn those patterns and eventually be able to throw that data out with good enough accuracy.

well, I don't know how programs access this data. From the registry? Some shared DLL? You would only have to fool those places which it is accessed from, or the calls at least.

Install Linux. Install standalone NVidia binary drivers. Enjoy gaming without either your OS or a subset of your graphics drivers spying on everything you do.

It was about a year ago. Lots of people complained, but since most people are still going to buy Nvidia cards, they did it anyways.

All technology has been drifting this way. You can't trust your Microsoft OS. You can't trust your Android or iPhone. You can't trust your web browser.
We've lost the war. Corporate greed and government spying will always win.

So what you're saying is we need to decentralise the net?
[–] Plavonica 0 points 3 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago
And cpu manufacturing, gpu manufacturing, motherboard manufacturing, OS systems, etc etc. The list is endless and the powers that be are encroaching on every front.
[–] Chance 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago
Yes. What I'm saying is we should go out and riot in the streets and start fucking dragging these asshole politicians and Fortune 500 CEO's out and beating them for their betrayal of our citizens.
Globalization is ruining the world man.

I'm in favor of corporal punishment for those responsible, unless they correct the problem.
[–] Palaver 0 points 5 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago
Can't you just install the drivers manually instead of using their driver update service?
[–] SkillYourself [S] 2 points 5 points 7 points (+7|-2) ago
Yes but apparently that is changing soon too.
[–] FireForEffect 0 points 7 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago
Oh.
That changes more than this, then. Once it becomes a dead set requirement to register to even so much as manually update a driver, I'll switch card manufacturers.

I don't own a nVidia card, but I have to say that such thing annoys me. A mandatory account for drivers? fuck you. I mean c'mon I just need a soft that will enable my gfx card to work properly with OS. Driver is the software in case, so why create account? I myself could care less about rewards and prizes. I do definitely care about my privacy. So hell no to this.
If amd tries this with their Radeon Settings Software, I'll rant about it.
I hope nvidia users will get their shit together and fight this corp.

To be exact, you don't need an account (yet) just for drivers. You can still d/l them yourself from the NVidia website.
The account and spying go along with GeForce experience, which supposedly automatically sets the optimum settings for your games and your system. Until I uninstalled GFE a few weeks back, I always bumped them up from the recommended settings anyway. I think they lowballed everything to make me want a higher powered card. I have a 970. I think my next card will be AMD, but I hate the shorty way they do card numbering.
[–] PsychoDesign 0 points 2 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago
Guess I exaggerated about drivers dl that need a mandatory account, but still as you mentioned (yet). It may not be now, but eventually they could introduce this. And I hate to say this may come sooner rather later, I hope amd will not come to this.

There's also a handful of new processes that access the internet embedded in the drivers. I had immediately uninstalled GeForce Experience after seeing the login screen, but the new drivers have:
That is in addition to all the usual stuff they already had for updates and other things. I think it was also sending data from powershell.exe and syswow64\rundll32.exe during install if I remember correctly.

That sucks. I liked shadow play.
