Now i've played a fair bit of each mode I feel I've formed a good opninon of the game.
I LOVE IT! The single payer is a fastpased, helldiving, chaos machine and it's incredibly fun.It also has a strange amount of depth to it that i didn't expect within the different challenges, collectibles, upgrades and secrets. I also love that the character who you're playing as shares thesame mentality as you do as the player. There's a story going on that could be complex and intrigueing but you don't care, you're just here to kill demons.
The multiplayer is like a different bag of sweets but from the same brand. It does it's best to keep the fast paced shooting and demon slaying but has to make some compromises in order to keep it a balanced game that doesn't become too out of control. This causes it to deviate from the single player A LOT. But... that doesn't mean it's bad. It's still a huge amount of fun(in my opinion) and definitely has a huge amount of customization options and challenges that aren't neccesary but were added just to give it a bit more depth.
Snapmap.. well is very much in It's infancy but is already spawning some great maps with many different types of game modes and strange creations. For example I was playing a memory game... In DOOM.
Anyway, that's my thought. As usual with these posts, I'd love to hear what you have to say. Love it? Hate it? Let me know and let me know why. With DOOM essentially having three game modes. Let me know how you feel about each one. :)

I'll throw m 2 cents in, I still have doom on diskette stashed away in the basement. played the original, the sequels, made maps, played quake, quake2, q3a, and I was not thrilled to see a doom reboot. You can't fuck with the original FFS. I played the multiplayer beta and was pretty let down but hey, doom wasn't about multiplayer even though it pioneered it, quake was made for multiplayer and doom was made for single player, and even though I took the mp beta with a grain of salt but i was still concerned that single player would suck. Then I saw TotalBiscuit playing and I was like holy shit, that looks pretty good. Next thing I knew nostalgia swept over me and I bought it. After about 15 hours of game play I have to say that they did what I didn't think was possible and that is to recapture some of the doom magic. The game is fast, it's brutal, it's fun, and I love it. I think they did a really nice job of blending in some rpg elements into the game without making it necessary. They make me want to level up because it just makes the weapons more badass. You don't need to do this, but it makes you want to. Also I thought the glory kills would suck but they bring a very interesting element to the game, the more hurt you become, the more you need to glory kill to get the precious health that is dropped by enemies. Makes for very interesting tactics when fighting. Exploration is back too, once I kill everyone I want to explore and find secrets and try to get every last item and secret on the map. That brings me to the maps, they are fucking great and big and overall just awesome. Great flow and great detail was taken, and the map system is top notch. Combine all this with some of the best music, graphics, death animations and you end up with a fun as hell game. As far as the mutliplayer, it really does feel like a different game. It's ok but I come from the q2/q3arena/quakelive days and nothing beats q3a and quakelive (for me anyway) so I don't like it as much as those. Warpath and soul harvest are pretty fun though and I need to put in more time before I make up my mind. Game is worth the money for me full price based on nostalgia but others might want to wait until sales prices.

I honestly think the intensity and polish to that intensity and chaos in the single player is worth price of admission alone. As someone who played the originals as a fun little game growing up that I never really got into. The nostalgia wasn't really there, I still think it is an incredibly fun and engaging game. Not many shooters have me hooked quite like DOOM.

i used to sit and play wolfenstien and spear of destiny every day at work and then one day, this thing called doom was released and i was hooked. once we figured out you could play over a network we quickly devolved into non stop daily matches in the office with all the employees and the owners. we didn't get shit for work done but it was a glorious time to be alive.

I really enjoyed the campaign. I'm going to be running through it again in Nightmare next. The multiplayer didn't feel satisfying to me so I probably won't be playing that so much. I haven't tried the snapmap yet.
Here is some gameplay I recorded on Hurt Em Plenty difficulty.

Sneaky little plug for your video there. And I actually really enjoy the multiplayer so ive been playing it a fair bit. It's nothing compared to the campaign though.

I'm still pretty bad at the multiplayer so I might enjoy it more when I learn the basics. Unfortunately the campaign ended really abruptly with a really unsatisfying ending.
