This isn’t true. SteamPlay means that title can be played on more than one OS. Some SteamPlay titles only have Windows and Linux versions, or Windows and OS X versions. Some have all 3.

So I have to buy it again to play it if I buy the windows/os x version? That's not making any sense here.

No. For example, Knights of the Old Republic has the SteamPlay logo. It only has Windows and OS X versions. You only need to buy it once, and you can install it on both Windows and OS X.

You can’t install it on Linux natively, not because it’s a separate purchase, but because there is no Linux version.
