There was Calvin and Hobbes, and the Far Side, and Bloom County. It was a golden age of comic strips. When those three retired, I quit reading comics.

Bill Watterson and Berkeley Breathed had a running set of jokes with one another about how they treated each others characters. I remember in a book Breathed wrote he put in a picture of himself from Watterson where Breathed is cramming money into the tank of his speed boat while kicking him characters off the dock screaming "Beat it, no rides until I see you all on the sides of a Burger King cup!"

I like Dilbert better than The Far Side. I do software engineering stuff so... yeah, I can definitely relate to a lot of what it makes fun of.

I owe Dilbert a note of apology. It's a fine and funny strip. It was a little later than my three, and so fell off my radar a bit because I had basically quit reading stuff by that point. But I do like Dilbert quite a bit though.

Billy and the Boinger's Bootleg is a great collection of his, I suggest picking it up.

Bill the Cat was something of a spiritual leader for me when I was in high school. I'm homeless now and have one heck of a drug problem; I think Bill would be proud.

I like it, but I've seen other comics with the same premise, and I've seen it done better. I do like "offensensitivity" though, haha

Sure, but this was published around 1982 if you weren't aware.

I was actually looking for the strip that talks about a secret flow of arms to Nicaragua (it's a roach who's doing the talking). Not sure if it was Breathed or not.

Thanks for the context, that pretty much invalidated what I said. I wonder what brought the author to make this? I haven't heard much of cultural/social sensitivity rhetoric from that time period.

I get offended by a lot of things, but I just keep my mouth shut and move on with my life. I care less about being offended and more about protecting my life and my property.

You know, the 80's when the "moral majority" was pulling this stupid crap was exactly 35 years ago, what if those pulling this wave of bullshit are simply the children of the same ass holes being the same ass holes as their parents were when they came of age?
