You can upvoat, just not downvoat. I just upvoated you and this is my 1st comment.

Before you get 20 comment contribution points you are limited to 10 a day.

Once you upvoat 10 posts/comments within 24 hours you can't upvote or downvote until you reach 20 comment karma.

It's upvote party time!!1!! ..sorry, still on Reddit-quality posts mode.

It's just in the beginning when you've first signed up. You need 20 points yourself before you can vote an unlimited amount of times. I also think it's stupid. I don't think commenting 'upvote' is going to be liked by many people though, I'd remove those comments if I was you. Allow me to help you out a bit, you'll be free soon.

It's not stupid. It's an excellent way to make it more difficult to create throwaway accounts for vote brigading purposes.

That's actually pretty smart, stops spammers, bots and Unidan.

Ahhhh Okay that make sense now I see I have 36 points, they should list these "Ghost/newbie" comments so you know when you reach 20 instead of just showing 0 until you get to 20, Thanks Friend!

I like that it encourages discussion and participation. Should make for a more activate community, in theory.

It really does though. I had to start participating to earn my upvoats. It makes it more than a clicking contest since you'll eventually have to start communicating and the atmosphere around here feels a lot more open and welcoming.

especially when 100 points are required to downvote anyone.

Ran into the same thing. Apparently you have to have so many comments with up votes. I understand the logic, but it's really kind of a turn off.

Well, that puts a whole different perspective on it.Google+ is definitely not Facebook and not nearly as good, whereas Voat is way better than Reddit.

Who the hell ever compared Google+ to Facebook?

I like Google+. Never liked Facebook and deactivated my account ages ago. Google+ shows me interesting stuff, whereas Facebook flooded me with the inanity of people who take their every action and thought far too seriously.

It was years ago, and we all remembered what happened to MySpace and Friendster. There was no reason to think Google+ wasn't going to be a Facebook killer. You know, until it went public.

Exactly how I felt about it when I found it. Also, there is a lure here in that it is new. Getting in on the ground floor and being able to help shape a community is an exciting prospect. It's why I am here. I want to help make this place awesome. At reddit, it feels so large that I hardly ever comment because I just feel like it gets lost.

Precisely! I'm so happy to be around in this day and age.

We're all going to probably be some of the most respected users here in the years to come, just because we signed up in alpha and made subverses first. It's just such an exciting prospect, to be able to go into a small community where you're more than just a cog in the machine, but someone actually shaping something and becoming something.

I have the same message right now. Lame. I want to upvote all the things. I guess it's a good thing but man is it annoying.

It was like trying to yell in a storm. You get to say your peace but no one is going to hear it.

I'm sure it'll happen again eventually. However that isn't all bad, more users should be more varied content which is a good thing

I'm worried the same thing will happen here when it inevitably blows up, but my hope is that it will remain an open forum of civil discussion and that it won't become another polarized circlejerk.

And the only things people did hear were the really stupid things you said.

There are some smaller subreddits that I very much enjoy. The big default subs are much worse than the smaller hobbyist subs. Just looking through Voat, it's great that it's so small over here, but at the same time it makes discussion that much harder.

Voat is the redditest reddit.

Also, it's been nice not getting a stupid 503 error or ow message every time I want to look at the internet.

Isn't the point that it is better? Or are we just here for the username that we really wanted?

I'm here because this isn't Reddit, but like Reddit. Kind of like how I search for MMO's that aren't WOW, but like WOW.
