There are a thousand things that can go wrong when hiking. In this story alone the guy slipped in a river and bumped his head while lost. If he got knocked out or suffered a major head injury he would be dead.

Show we any literature that suggests hiking alone is a good idea please. I know the boy scouts don't recommend that.

I grew up in Yorkshire. I used to go on 4+ hour walks by myself all the time. Everyone I knew did, and no one thinks anything of it.

The weather does whatever so you're adequately prepared for most everything, and you're never too far from somewhere or something. No matter where you are walk east or west and you'll hit a major highway or the coast within 6 hours. And that's worst case.

It's mostly foggy rolling hills.

Sometimes, you just want to be alone.

Sometimes, it's forever.
