Starving kids in Africa are generally not coming from unpredictable continent-wide natural disasters, from Westerners nuking them, or anything else that is out of their control. Africa has serious problems because its nations are run seriously badly. This is an opportunity for Africa to find a way to manage its problems without having their hands constantly held by outsiders, just as we do not ask African nations to fix our broken welfare system... or to reduce their population to levels they are capable of managing. Of course, it doesn't feel good to acknowledge this reality, but reality doesn't change to make us comfortable.
