The claim as I understand it is that there were 8 million people populating that island when Columbus got there. How many Spanish troops could he possibly have brought back with him? Perhaps 1000? If they were doing things like chopping up babies, there's no way the population wouldn't have fought back and wiped them out.

I don't doubt that the Spanish were nasty people in that region, but the more extreme stuff reads like propaganda.

I agree with you - there isn't a lot of evidence and it seems it keeps getting exaggerated. The best evidence we have is a Dominican priest slave holder who later became a lobbyist to the King against slavery - Bartolomé de las Casas

It would be like if a pig farmer became the face of PETA. Of course they'd say we're mistreating the pigs.

I'd recommend anyone on the fence to read about him with an open mind and consider if he's an unbiased source.
