Because it isn't obvious the community wants those rules here. Some people are very vocal on banning memes, but that does not mean it should be done.

I'm fine with mods running a sub they see fit. If the community dislikes how the mods run it, they can go elsewhere.

That feels backwards. The sub belongs to the community, not the mods. The mods are required and exist to help the community function, but not the other way around. If the community and mods do not agree, the mods should be replaced. It feels we've got incompatible viewpoints here.
