Concepts like the overton window and horseshoe theory are products of the fact that the "left vs. right" model of politics is completely and intentionally broken. It takes one philosophy (socialism), awards it 50% of all political representation, then tries to cram everything else into a single, ineffectual and divided opposition.

Then they have the gall to come up with concepts like the overton window that suggest it's unfair that socialism is "only" 30% or 40% of all political representation.

You can do the same thing with other fields and it ends up being just as broken. Take religion for example, how accurate would our understanding of theology be if we filtered all religious philosophy into "roman catholics" vs. "heretics."

While I totally agree that, conceptually, the overton window is limited to a singular dimension, making it ill-fit for the vast majority of political / social analysis, it seems appropriate here, where the polarity is between totally free speech on one end, and totally controlled speech on the other. People are being tricked into accepting less than their natural rights because they are succumbing to an alternating onslaught of foot-in-the-door and door-in-the-face negotiation tactics. It is sickening to watch.
